EC please chime in do all of the TCU tunes move the shift point up to 6800 or is that upon request.
Also the rev limiter "which I thought was or is engine controlled is different than the shift point you can bounce off the rev limiter and not hit your shift point under full throttle. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Please keep in mind that when you "bounce" off a rev limiter, you are actually hitting the ECU rev limiter, not the TCU.
I have customers who have had their TCU tuned for over 2 years. I feel it was another fuel issue with Cyl 8.
Enjoy the holidays guys and I'm sorry to hear about this so close to xmas.
I'll be unavailable until next week but feel free to call my cell with any questions!

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Seriously doubt and hate to even bring up TCU being as issue, but since it already was. No way that tune could have caused this. This was a typical scenerial where the car was on a long run to oblivion in 3rd which is where they all seem to blow- top of 3rd gear. All fuel related. At this point, open her up or at the minimum get one of these and explore, they are awesome.

Or, you know, it could be the same thing thats blown all the other motors when the weather cools down, given the mods, fuel demands, and time of year.
Why learn from the past and mistakes of others when we can speculate!
I'm sure EC meant for owners to bounce off the limiter at 130 in cold weather. Right?

It was pretty chilly yesterday morning in Houston and I did a quick pull on the way home from the airport.

I have a stock 55 with just EC ECU tune and drive a lot in the cold these days. You said you don't drive in the winter can you explain why? I don't really do high speed runs, the max I'll go is like 110-120 MPH.

Thanks mang. It looks like it might only be a blown headgasket. Its not leaking any fluid and I checked all the caps of the engine and they were all clean with no debris. The white fumes smelled sweet which I think is a sign of a blown head gasket.

Although I'm praying that's the case - I'd still tow it and not turn it over.

Stock... cars are tuned on the rich side, so not a big problem in the winter. I think 90% of the blown cars were in the winter months...

Well according to my wideband, the AFRs instead of being in the normal 11.5-11.7 range, were creeping up slowly as the days got colder. Eventually after they came up to the 12.1 range i decided not to have another blown motor story and blame the tuners... hence I parked the car for winter.

I dynoed last weekend in like 50F temps and my AFRs sat at 10.9, so that's bolstering my confidence a bit. EC ECU tune.

Wow...I'm really sorry to read of your misfortune and wish you the best with your diagnostics.
While you are waiting to have the motor checked out by a professional, you could try disconnecting the breather hose (3/4" black hose) which attaches to the accordion intake tube(driver's side) from the valve cover. Disconnect the hose and start the car, you will not harm anything. If there is blow-by coming out of that hose, you most likely hurt a piston.
Let's figure out the damaged and get you running again. I would be very reluctant to point a finger at a tuner. These motors need to be monitored, period.
Best of luck.

A steady WOT AFR at 10.9 is too rich, IMHO. Too lean gets the most attention, but too rich is detrimental too. Might be worth having Jerry tweak your tune (if he thinks it's warranted).

It's a box tune. Made good enough power for me for now. Did several pulls and 10.9 was the richest. Jerry mentioned at the time that there was more power to be had, but I'm happy for now.

10.9 isn't too lean at all. There might be some power left on the table being a little rich but I'd trade a few horsepower for peace of mind any day.... In the end the AFR is just a number. Some cars actually make better power and safer power with a rich/safe tune which these cars are pretty rich from the factory.

Very sorry to hear of your engine troubles!
Just a bad combination of circumstances
Cold air is great for making power but if your close to being out of fuel it can easily push you into a damaging lean condition.
Think of this, Its often speculated that for Every 10 degree drop in air temp is a gain of 1% in power.
If you tune your heavily modded E55 in 75 degree air and your just about out of fuel imagine it at 27 degree's. That about a 4% increase in power or 20 hp on a 500hp car. My fuzzy math says that about an extra 16cc of fuel need to maintain.
You take that and couple it with bouncing and engine off the limiter under load and bad things can happen. Different manufactures do different things for rev limiters but typically it cuts spark and fuel to the cylinder. So no spark and no fuel to a very hot piston with positive load on the top of it(boost) and I can only bad things can happen.
I donut know who's tune it was nor do I care, there is no way its tune related or tcu tune related for that matter.
Good luck getting it back together.

Troof. We need this up here in the norfeast. I will be doing pulley/tune/ttm rail/injectors but still wouldnt mind a winter tune to be safe. It's 12 degrees outside my house right now.
