g55 exhaust system
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wF0fQJkgdlo how do u make an e55 sound like that . all the e55s ive heard even with aftermarket exhausts sound **** i love the 55 and it sounds really good from the inside but from the outside the exhaust makes a ticking sound and it gets worse with an exhaust system . it sounds like a harley davidson . how do you make it sound like the video . i know the g55 has a short side exhaust design thats completely different and wont fit the e55 but there must be a way . that car sounds amazing

I made a thread about this a while back as I was wondering if it's possible too. It would be good it there was an E55 exhaust that sounds like that but I have yet to hear it. One of the things that made me love the 63s is the exhaust sound but I gotta say that G55 in the video EATS any 63 I've heard 
The G55 sounds very similar to the SLR, if anyone can come up with a way to make the E55 sound like that I'll buy that exhaust for myself and 4 other people

Both the G and SLR have in common, a shorter exhaust system that exits the side. Another thing is that 2 exhaust banks are not connected. When I did the resonator delete on my E, I went straight pipe instead of X-pipe. That helped the sound some, but I believe our exhaust still has a H-pipe around the secondary cats. I believe we can get close to the same sound with a true dual setup. We don't have many competent exhaust shops in my area, but would be great if someone tried it out.

does the g55 exhaust system have the 2 tank looking things at the front like the slr though or just a true dual setup with a shorter exiting exhaust . in that case couldnt the e55 have a side exiting exhaust not necessarily showing from the side just length wise . the g55 is the best sounding merc along with the slr it would be insane if the e55 sounded exactly like it . i love the torque and speed of the e55 but the sound not so much . the video below kind of says what i hate about the way the e55 sounds . theres that ticking noise its so annoying . it doesnt have that thunder noise of the g55 . the g55 noise is deeper not necessarily louder just "stronger" . all the e55 exhausts ive heard dont sound good and some just too loud and still dont sound good . see the second video that car sounds like a harley davidson or a tractor . it sounds good on a bike but on a car its so annoying and ugly . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wVM53Ul_bvE http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-oLyf7d6ggc

I don't think it's that simple. I've heard E55s with the secondary cats and resonator delete and they don't sound like the G55. I don't think OP is asking what sounds "similar" more along the lines of exactly. Personally I think if an E55 sounded like a G55 is would be amazing and would sound BETTER than a 63.
By the way are the G55 engines the same exactly? Do they maybe have different cams?

thanks hammerdown for the video, it gives a great look at the exhaust setup . tbal this thread wasnt even about the best sounding exhaust , it was about how to get the g55 sound from the e55 . if you dont like the g55 sound then dont comment here . im looking for an e55 btw so yes this does concern me . i dont want it to sound like nascar . its a daily driver and a respectable car not some clown mobile . i dont like that stupid ticking noise , its my opinion and if you like it then good for you . does anyone else have some input on this as for me its the best sounding 55 . by the way it doesnt matter if its shorter , why not do the same thing on the e55 and put a shorter exhaust then put dummy tips at the back so it still looks like stock . anyone selling an e55 in socal by the way pm me as im interested . preferably an 05/06 model

Well from what I can see in the video the exhaust may fit right? I mean I am by no means an expert on exhaust, quite opposite infact, but it doesn't have the 2 beer kegs on the sides like the SLR.
Could the sound be solely from the exhaust though, I mean could the cams be different.... This is gonna sound stupid but could the body of the G55 help it make that insanely deep thunder like sound? The sound fit the car so well and is so damn beefy it's not even funny. Can any experts shed some light on this....Shardul.....Exotic... If the G55 headers and exhaust could fit then wouldn't that solve the issue?

I did not think the G55 system was that simple. Maybe with the SLR with the two beer kegs on the sides and the very short exhaust but didn't think the G55 exhaust looked like that. The question is can it be fitted? I know the tips exiting the side would look stupid but say they could be concealed some how. I mean the exhaust itself and the headers. How restrictive is the G55 exhaust or is it actually more open?

More vids of your personal setup T! Yours is best I've heard. I'm just missing your 63 mufflers dang it! You deserve that exhaust note though..youve gone trough more setups than people have cars..can't wait to hear it with the kleemann headers..
