Pano roof rattles/creeks
My pano roof makes creek noises when driving, I'm wondering how many others do also. Mb has a 20 page diagnostic guide on the pano roof and how to make it quiet, but I havent taken the time to actually do anything to it yet.
Do they all do it, or only some?
Does model year make a difference?
Mine is a 04.

It's really easy to get rid of the creaking. Just open the roof and lube all of the rubber seals that are under there, including the wind deflector portion. It takes 2-3 minutes and eliminates the noise immediately.
The only caveat is that I have not had time to research the best lubes so I have been using Pedros ice wax which is a wax lube for chains. It works well but only lasts about a month. I need to do some homework on wax, silicone, or acrylic type rubber treatments to see what works best and lasts longer.

I wish it were that simple... I have lubed it with the factory MB lube, no difference, at least on mine. Thats why this document is there to locate it, and has different solutions for noises from different areas.
I'm not sure how I could post such a lengthy thing on here.

My 04 rattles... I took it to the dealer and they pulled the headliner to try to fix it.... After an entire day at the MB shop, they came back to me ans said there was nothing that they can do.
I think that there is a difference between some squeeking.... which can probably be made slightly better from lubrication... but creaking and rattling is just due to a crappy designed sunroof.

I really dont think many people, even techs that work at dealers( as I didnt before I went searching) know about this guide I'm talking about. It goes very in depth. Let me see what I can do about posting it.
But, if today was any sign, I tried to email a wiring diagram with diag info and the website would not let me. I ended up having to take a picture of the computer screen with my phone and then emailing it.

Mine makes some noise, but bearable. Had lubed once and it was quieter, but Id love to see this document as well. If it can be e-mail, I can put up on an FTP site, or it looks like BBBSS can do that as well.

The problem is that the bolts that hold down the roof to the frame gets looser over time as the chassis flexes over and over again. The real fix is to undo the bolts and apply some plastidip to anywhere metal touches metal.

I had the panoramic roof on my E350, didn't care for it after awhile. I thought that one day the glass would actually crack, considering all the noise that it made.

pano cleaning and lube file pdf
I have used silicone spray in the past for lubing with good results. It will start creaking again after a few months, when it does just lube it again. Since I just did my front and rear brake pads and rotors I may try the same grease that is used between the rotor and the caliper next time on the pano. Just will use a very light coat and see how long that lasts.

It is biggest complaint with my car. The roof creaks and pops at will. I can't drive in peace and always have to have the radio on or the roof open. Are there MB corporate folks reading these threads? It is disappointing if year-over-year complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Having the dealer look is a big waste of time and money.
Have you had this done and if so, where? I am in So Cal.

Same here...this is the biggest disappointment with this car for me as well. Damn roof creaks constantly, especially when cold. I'll go to the dealer and pickup those two part numbers and try lubricating the points, but I have a feeling that's not going to solve it. Wish I'd gotten a hard top or regular sunroof model...lesson learned.

07 on NYC roads with 65k no problem with Pano
I do clean it twice a yr and lube with White Lithium Grease spray type.
I also open all my windows and roof in the winter about 3-4 cycles (up down up down etc)every 2 weeks along with turning on the A/C. I also make sure the ABS pump is working my giving it a hard stop every so often.
NYC road are not the best and I have a quiet roof.
