Hi Guys- wondering what some actual $ numbers are on maintenance / repair items for an '04 E55 AMG.

I have been on a few car forums, and know the etiquette of searching - however, I see words like "scary", "prohibitive", "astronomical" - used to describe regular services, or necessary (or typical) maintenance issues.

Not looking for a list of everything - just some idea. I can pick up an '04 with 113,000 km on it - about 70,000 +/- miles at a good price, and it looks to be in great shape.

Thank you,
Mike

I've been looking for over an hour, and can't find hard $ numbers. Thanks for the absolutely useless, typical forum reply. Well done. And of course, no help.

You didn't look hard enough... I started a thread not too long ago where members posted hard numbers

Have had my 04 E55 for about 24months and had it serviced twice - it has 45,000km so hasn't gone far

Just prior to purchase had Secondary Airpump issue - (pump seized etc) replaced this - bill to previous owner was about $3000 NZD
(US NZ exhange rate about 0.8)

Service to replace the SBC (Braking) unit - MB in New Zealand covered the part as a 'goodwill' replacement as there are some known issues - the part if I had to pay for it would have been over $4000 NZD - only ended up paying for labour and fluids etc - still was around a $750 bill

Just had service C completed a couple of weeks ago - Oil, filters etc - plus Aircon service and cabin filters etc was around $800 NZD (would have been about $600 just for service without aircon

Hope that provides some info - I haven't had any problems with Airmatic or anything else major and it doesn't get driven much - about 4,000kms per year

For 04 its very hard to say. Keep in mind its 8 years old car, any car with 8 years will need repairs even the Camry. The airmatic suspension, IC pump and Crank position sensor, those are common issue u can find out in this forum. For my case, i own my car for almost 3 years, only did oil change, valve cover, spark plugs, belts, water pump, battery. Total cost about $2K. ( not include my mod) I did it in indy shop instead of dealer so keep in mind, dealer cost is about double. I would say average $1500 per year but shiit happens so you never know !

welcome to what some here like to call 'the initiation' - some like it, some don't - either way, it's here in the forum

I have a link in my signature that may help (or not)
AMG's in general aren't 'cheap' to maintain, definitely suggest a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) and a warranty if you're not wrench handy...

It amazes me anyone who doesn't spin wrenches would buy a 8 year old performance car, otherwise you will buy a newer version w/ a warranty...I am a major wrencher so I need not worry but I could not imagine even thinking of buying any older exotic and taking it somewhere every time it breaks, when I had my 92' 911 Turbo I would of had to refinance my house if I had to "shop" it when it needed work!....get a new Mustang GT w/ a warranty & be able to eat!

E55 was MSRP from $80K to $90K depends on the options. Mine is 06 fully loaded. Bought it on 2009. It was a great deal 1 owner and it was only 3 years old. I paid $35K with Chrysler warranty at the time. You know what, the depreciation already hit so much in the first 3 years. If down the road need $20k to fix I still think not a bad deal. With the depreciation money I saved, i can fix my car easily. E55 is not that bad, the only bigger issue is airmatic suspension which only $1500 to fix for both now. My neighor has a 08 Mustang and already been 4 times Ford dealer last 6 months. My point is, buying a AMG you need some extra budget when shiit happens.

The problem isn't just when things go wrong, though.

I took my car in two days ago to have them look at the Distronic, which was throwing up an error every now and then. And I also asked them to look at the supercharger chirp and my active seats, just to see if they are working properly.

I've been told that the distronic is a voltage issue, easy fix. The chirping is belt tensioner (i was expecting it to be the supercharger clutch). No word on the seats yet.

But they also said "while we had it on the lift" they found a leak rear main seal and some worn motor/tranny mounts. I have a NAC Pinnacle warranty and so they have someone inspecting the car to approve warranty work.

I don't have prices yet, but there's no way I could afford this kind of stuff without a warranty. I'm betting $5k worth of repairs. Not to mention rolling in a new GLK loaner is nice, too! hehe

So spinning wrenches is one thing. But an 8 year old AMG may need major repairs, too.
