URGENT: NHTSA Opens investigation into fuel leaks on the E55.
NHTSA Headquarters

If someone has an email address they can send me, I would appreciate it....
Refer your extended warranty to the nhtsa website and the complaints no where does it say it's a recall...
When it becomes a recall the dealer will eat all costs...further bs of passing the ball!
If they exclude work due to recall, then its between you and them.
By Monday we will know if Mercedes has requested an extension to file a response to NHTSA.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
If they wanted to show that they stand behind their product, they would call a recall before the 16th
Sent them over to him. Let's see what happens.
He also asked if I knew if the previous owners had the vehicle during the camplaign because I just purchused it last May, or the first owner, depending on when the second owner bought the car. I said I didn't know but I would assume the first owner owned it then. He said he's going to try to pull the service history from my VIN and find out who owned it then, and what was done for the recall as MB USA is claiming a there were a few different catorgories of things performed to remedy this.
He asked if it leaks all the time - I said no. Only after filling it. Once it seems to go below approx 3/4 I don't smell the fuel.
Then asked if I've seen fuel on the side of the tank - I answered that I've never seen the tank from underneth but on a few occasions have seen fuel on my garage floor.
Then asked if I could smell it in the passenger compartment - I answered no, only when outside the vehicle.
Then asked if I have a check engine light - I said no.
He asked if I have any thoughts on it and I replied that I've read the stuff on the NHTSA site that MB USA said and I think it could be bunch of various different problems rolled into the same outcome, a leak. I said that my guage is off and the previous owner said it was like that also which leads me to believe the pumper/sender housing could be installed incorrectly.
Or... that under the recall if I got a new pump/sender housing during the recall that it could be incompatible with the tank as it it appears there could (I'm not sure) be multiple manufacturers and versons of the the tank (people have said different part numbers). Also, that the seals could not be compatible with the tank or housing also.
He stated to me that the fuel tank and it's various parts are rather complex. And that the system is under pressure. I stated then that if the system is under pressure and the service manual says the tank needs to at less then 3/4 to remove the housing, if there is a bad seal then wouldn't it leak when it above 3/4's ? I think thats an interesting point.
The investigator seems to be interested in my vehicle, atleast I think so or he wouldn't have wanted to speak to me right ?
He also asked if I would mind if anyone took a look at my car. I don't have a problem with his guys looking at it but I don't know about the dealerships I've spoken to prior. I would let a dealer I've never spoken to possibily check it out.

Ive forwarded them five invoices so far.
Maybe keep a list who has spoken to the NHTSA about this claim
Maybe my diagnosis from an authorized Mercedes Benz dealer with factory trained techs helped.
