Supercharger belt tensioner.

Has anyone had their tensioner go bad? I have a decent amount of belt dust under the engine cover and my belt is brand new ( gates ). Is there a sure way to know if the tensioner has grown weak?

It's generally the 2 pulley wheels the get done in (I have had 2 crack over time, it's been the pulley in the back on both).

When facing the engine from the front, they are on the left side with hood popped up.

Check the baring on the front one as that can go also.

I had the hood up today and noticed my car was making a whirring sound. I'm not sure if its the supercharger bearing or the tensioner.

My pulley's are fine. It is my tensioner that feels like it could be weak. I don't have a car to compare it to though so I could be wrong. Is there a way to test the tensioning of the belt?

mine started making screeching noise at startup a few days before it broke off and sent my car into limp mode pulling out onto the highway trying to pass someone- that was fun lol

Just the tensioner pulley but never a tensioner. I usually keep a few softly used tensioners around, just in case though.. Belt dust seems to be normal and it sticks around the tensioner area.

What happened to your previous tensioner?
