Can someone access MB maintenance and service records?
#27
Are you still there, 210e55?
I sent you an email with my VIN and email address a couple of days ago and haven't heard a thing.
Are you still helping folks get there service records? Would much appreciate it.

I do hope that you're at least blacking out the original owner's name. It would just be common courtesy to do so. Not all of us original owners want our names attached to the geographical service records and being handed out to anybody.....
CARFAX doesn't post actual names of owners and MBUSA doesn't release that sort of info either. There are legal reasons and it's in MBUSA's written privacy policy not to release it. And if you call MBUSA they will tell you that the VMI is actually proprietary information owned by MBUSA and not for the owner (yeah sounds crazy, but it is their internal document and their property.) But if your dealer knows you and you're the original owner, they'll normally give you a copy.

CarFax has way more info including your title number, State, locality, if you have a loan on it, reposessions etc.

Ha!...its amazing what you are asserting...these reports has no owner info in or on them in any way...I've actually seen one and its nothing but info about the car...DataSheet and Maintenance Records (date, mileage and work performed or refused)
CarFax has way more info including your title number, State, locality, if you have a loan on it, reposessions etc.

I have my VMI. You may have assumed you've seen one but clearly you have not.

My VMI has my full name (including middle name) on it. It also has the originating dealer name and all my service records of where I had it serviced. And I am the original owner. You are obviously a newbie to the brand.

Not sure what your angle is but I've redacted the VIN/engine/trams #s to protect the innocent!
I don't have a horse in this race and was more concerned about your comment earlier ...because you also had not seen what he is sending.

Read again my original post:
"I do hope that you're at least blacking out the original owner's name. It would just be common courtesy to do so. Not all of us original owners want our names attached to the geographical service records and being handed out to anybody....."
That's all I said. It's not about a 'conspiracy' or anything else. If I don't want my name on something that's my property (actually it's legally the property of MBUSA as it's an internal document), then that's all I am concerned about.
So once again for the reading comprehension impaired: I inquired if the name of the original owner's name was being blacked out by 210e55 as a courtesy. If he's doing so, then that's good and all I was asking. If not, then he might want to consider it simply as a courtesy.
Pretty simple and no implications are there and no conspiracy theories to assume, so you can all relax.....

A VMI has the CURRENT owners name only (MB updates it when title is transferred), which is pretty harmless. If I did a quick search on Google I could find just about anyone's name, address, what they paid for their house, etc. If it listed sensitive info like dob or ssn on a VMI id be worried too. Names and addresses can be found in a phone book.
So, once again: if you are selling VMIs to anybody who asks (e.g., prospective buyers of a used Mercedes) then as a professional courtesy you should be at the very least be blacking out the owner's name. It's not about anything other than that. Some people are working professionals in high profile industries with recognizable names and simply would prefer that strangers don't know about their automobile purchasing history. There are reasons why MBUSA keeps certain info private, and the same with the dealers.
btw, are you employed at a dealership?

Just....
to re-inforce my post from way back.....I too would encourage EVERYONE to proceed here with caution and as far below the radar as you can. Those of us who use this information to try to make intelligent informed decisions (used car managers and buyers, honest dealers and repair shops) are very sensitive to the fact that MB doesn't want this info out in the mainstream. Please be respectful to prior and current owners and don't just throw this info out there.....if not, one day we are going to walk down the MB store and find ALL info shut down.

Allen +1,
Some of the comments posted by others above would make me post
"Due to comments by xxxx I will not longer help any one out. Complain to him that he screwed it up for the rest of you"
