All points bulletin! Capri E55 headed accrossed the country
RedBaron picked up his car today. Capri blue w/ 2-tone charcoal/blue interior. He flew in from New Mexico and picked it up this morning and is driving it home. Yes, that's right, driving home from Philly to Albuquerque (sp?), he is my new hero (sorry treynor).
Keep yours eyes out for a Capri E55 headed accrossed the PA turnpike and onto I70 west. We discussed the recommended break in (max speed 85 MPH for first 1,000 miles) and figured that by the time he gets to St. Louis he can start to get on it. Yeah right! He called me on his cell about an hour after he left to tell me how much he was loving it already. "I just went to pass someone on the turnpike and when I looked down I was doing 110, sorry, I'll try to take it easy."
It is raining today so these pics were taken inside. He promised to post some more pics when he gets home.
Nice road trip RedBaron, I like your style

Sorry about the pics,
Useless pics, sorry. We'll have to wait for next week for him to post some. The car looks/is awesome!
Let's all "hold a good thought" for safe passage this weekend of our AMG brother. God speed (up to 85MPH till St. Louis, that is) RedBaron.
P.S. Of course in the interest of customer service I did offer to deliver it to NM for him and fly back so he wouldn't have to take time of off work. No luck, can't blame a guy for trying though

Another few weeks of waiting and I'm going to reach my limit and have to schedule a flight to PA myself.
Got any inside connections on a black or dark 2004 E55 CME4BENZ?
I still haven't got a firm date for fall.

Hi amg55,
We have our last '03 being built 08/D2/03.
As far as production schedule for '04s. We have our first '04 scheduled for production 09/D1/03. D1 = the first "decade" of the month (decades = each 10 day period of the month).
When and how many cars your dealer is allotted willl differ depending on how many cars they sell. Expect '04s to begin production in Sept. and begin coming into the states in Oct.

mp,
As per my post they will make '03s in August and '04s in Sept. with only a couple of weeks in between. There is not much delay because the '03 and '04 are the same basically. "Downtime" is different when there is a complete model change, i.e. The W210 ('03)wagon production ended about 9 months ago (late last year) and W211 wagon (04) is just starting up.
As far as the cornering lights I have no word on that yet.

Trip report...
Well, the car performed beautifully on the trip from PA to NM!! I drove 2,000 miles over four days - two eleven hour days and two four hour days. With all the traffic, the fastest I got it up to was 130. The car cruises very comfortably at 110 - IMO you don't really even begin to feel the speed till about 120 or so. I absolutely love the sound of the engine from inside the car. A good rumble, but very refined. Often hard to believe there are 470 ponies under there!
There have been some rather in-depth write ups posted on this forum, so I'll just share a few initial thoughts:
No surprise, the car is very f-a-s-t. But where it really shines is the seemingly endless torque one feels at highway speeds. Passing a slow-poke going 70 requires only a slight touch of throttle. The car downshifts smoothly and passes in a flash. A few times, I was stuck behind some folks going up hills at 80 or so, and (unfortunately) had to pass on the right - totally effortless. Any hill - any speed you want.
My interior is black/blue - it is a darker blue and very subtle - I think it looks great and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a blue, black or silver car.
Exterior color is Capri blue - it is a dark blue, and under certain lighting and angles looks a bit purplish. Very nice, as it changes depending how you look at it. It has that same strong character as black, but a bit more interesting, IMO.
I would also recommend the panorama roof - very nice execution, and I particularly like the way the shades work.
I played with the manual shifters a bit, but they seem to be more of a novelty than practical for everyday street driving. They would be good for autocross or something, but I find the shift-o-matic on the console fine for regular driving.
Overall, I am quite impressed with the overall styling, fit, finish, and materials (the suede headliner is a great touch). The car looks much better in person than in pictures (although it looks pretty good in pictures!). And pictures do not do the engine justice until you see it in person.
I'll post some pics soon...

Welcome home RedBaron
I'm glad you made it home with no trouble (from the Benz or "the Fuzz"). It sounds like the car is working out great. Please post some pics. As you can see, the ones I took in the delivery area did not come out at all. I'm glad everything worked out.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

Bugs? I drove from Atlanta to Philadelphia Saturday afternoon, my car was SPLATTERED in bugs! How did you fare?
I mean I had buggs all over the front end, and then its slimy guyts on the hood and the windshield!
I'd hate to do that on a brand new car.
