P2187 CEL code. What is it ? Intake casket?Air leak? Running lean??Oil deep stick?
Hi guys ~
I am not certain if my newly installed BMC air filters are causing this ,
anyhow I recently got CEL light with P2187 code.
Already did my search at the board, but opinions were confusing.
Some saying bad intake gasket , loose oil deep stick , bad O2 sensor,
Bank 1 lean at idle, air filter not properly installed and ect. My code reader
only provides minimum amount of info so could not read any fuel trim or
anything.
What do you guys think ??? I mean I am going to take it down to the dealer
in couple of days but just want to find out exactly whats going on and stuff.
My car is 08 63.
Thank you in advance and drive safe !!!

Usually on modern mass air metered systems its a leak between the mass air flow sensor and the intake port going into the head. These are not mass air metered systems though. It's a speed density system so take your focus off a leak on the intake side. Or a loose oil dipstick (never heard of not having a good seal there triggering a code).
If your bored and handy you can swap your sensor 1 O2's from one side to the other to see if the fault moves with it. I don't think that is gonna be it though.

Thank you all for your advice !! Just to give you an update. As of now no CEL
light so far. I did a couple hard acceleration up to around 6k rpm and no CEL.
I just erased the code and opened up both air box and refitted my BMC filters.
Some dirts and dead insects were inside the box and cleaned it out.
BMC filters were not that oily at all.
Once it comes back on I'll just have to take it to the dealer . Thanks guys ~
and drive safe. Just added a photo of a guy who trashed his cls . Sleeping
behind a wheel.

Sorry just re-read this and saw your a 63 not a 55. That should be a speed density car as it is naturally aspirated. Look for any loose intake hosing/air box/vaccum lines that may have come loose/popped off. I'm assuming your under warranty so its probably a quick fix for a dealer. If its not under warranty an old trick is to lightly spray carb cleaner around the intake gaskets/throttle body gaskets etc where you suspect a leak may be with the car warmed up and idling. If you spray over the vacuum leak the RPM's will rise.
Your getting unmetered air into the motor after the mass airflow sensor somewhere so the computer doesn't know it needs to inject more fuel for his air.

Just put back the stock filters and you'll sleep better @night. Samething happened to me after I put k&n filters in my car. These after market filters aren't a perfect fit causing air leakage.

It turns out to be exhaust gasket leak. BUT CANNOT BE SURE since
I replaced my stock filters with BMC. "P2187" code can be triggered
high flow air filters and exhaust gasket leak.
Plus the dealer I went to did not have "EMISSION WARRANTY" on the
exhaust gasket leak.
Where as some on this forum had this "P2187" lean bank one
fix under warranty.
However dealer did reset the ECU adaptation value to see if it triggers CEL"
It did again after couple days.
So in the end I just bought my self a OBDII reader and just erase it.
I also replaced my exhaust gasket with new one. And CEL light does come
on. So I assume its the filters. The only solution I have is to EUROCHARGED
my ECU.![naughty](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/naughty.gif)

Since I have shorty headers anyway.
Hope this helps.

I just had am issue with the same code, it popped ip after a 115mph run over an (empty) bridge, next day had it checked and cleared, didn't return for a week or so when I really pushed on it again, same process, clear, gone.
Next time I let it run it course and the code went away on it own, but popped ip more frequently, like the little problem was getting worse, more prevalent.
MB dealer replaced intake gaskets under some service bulletin, apparently not a completely uncommon issue
Problem solved

Is it possible if you could scan a receipt of service performed at the dealer?
I'm having hard time getting this fixed under warranty ~!! Thanks and
drive safe ~
