275/30/19 for CLS55?

My stock CLS55 tires are 285/30/19. The tire choices in that size are very limited. I tried a 295/30/19 but there was no possible way to mount it on the rim even though it would fit on the car without rubbing.

My question is if there would be any negative aspects to putting a 275/30/19 on the rear of my car. This size would open up MANY options including the Michelin PSS.

Thoughts?

275 is the ideal size for a 9.5 in rim which comes on the CLS

Considering the power of your car, it can't help for sure. Personally, on a 55, I'd never go less width on the back.

285 also comes on the CLS with the AMG trim package.

Yes. The car came with 285/30 but the tires offered in that size are severely limited. That is why I am leaning towards 275/30. I am guessing the smaller diameter isn't going to throw anything off.

yea I'm aware of that, 285 is oversized for a 9.5 rim though so a 275 would work just fine.

Actually, it's not. The tire is not sucked in at the bead at all. Sure, a 275 will work, but why go LESS width on a 55? Just less of a footprint on a car where traction is key. On a 500 sure, but not a 55.

Actually that's incorrect. The tires I just purchased, 275/30 Conti Extreme DW have a larger section width than the 285/30 Hankook's which the shop was trying to sell me.

So while the tire is larger on the 285/30, the 275/30 actually has more tread touching the ground.
