07 E63 with ARH Longtubes - Advice Needed

Hi everyone,

I have an 07 E63 with ARH Longtubes w/o cats and x-pipe that were just installed last week. I brought the car home late Friday night and started it up on a Saturday morning... All of a sudden all my neighbors were like "What the XXXX...." Needless to say, the car sounds amazingly mean with really crisp exhaust notes,... but amazingly loud for my neighbors and a bit too loud for my taste. So I just ordered the slip-on elbows with 200 cell cats from ARH. Your thoughts on how I should approach keeping the sound down while also keeping performance:

1.) Put on Vibrant Ultra Quiet Resonators right before stock mufflers
2.) Put back the stock secondary cats with H-pipe and connect to LTs
3.) Buy a C63 Agency Power Valvetronic Muffler $$$$
4.) Forget about the Longtubes and put back stock system with gutted primary cat and a set of PLM log style manifolds

... And no, I'm not about ready to move for better neighbors.

Any advice appreciated!

No cell because I had the rear 02 turned off.

Change out your mufflers as the E63 muffs are pretty loud. Borla make some really great flowing mufflers that are whisper quiet.

Why are you so concerned about what your neighbors think BTW?

Please put up a cold start vid, drive off, and fly bye with the current setup before you change anything out

Hi CHawkins,
Thanks for the tips... My neighbors are board members on the housing Association. I'll try to get some video clips soon.

I'll trade you my E55 mufflers for your E63 mufflers.

The E55 mufflers are the quietest of the bunch.

As I used to say when I was young: "F the neighbors !!"... Actually yelled that one night as I strutted up and down the street, drunk on tequila... (25 years ago)

Anyway, I need to hear this before you go messing with anything. I was going to try to get to ACG before you left, but got side tracked.

Options I would consider:

  • Adding resonator
  • E55 mufflers (Swap with Forrest)

Don't go back to stock... there is a way to get this where you want it. If you want to meet up for some video help, let me know. Or, walk over to your neighbor, say hold this (video camera), and then proceed to do fly bys

Just went through the exact same scenario! Got LTH Catless with Xpipe where resonator was. Sounds like F1 status ,waaay to loud. Scary in a way. Lost low power and stunk. Didn't mind the smell at first but after a while it wasnt tolerable. So install 300 cell cats(RT) and it was a lot better but still too loud for my liking. Reclaimed lots of low end torque with the cats in place. Last I'd reinstalled the stock resonator in and moved the Xpipe closer up front. Was really excited to finally get the perfect exhaust note and feel the power. Nice mild throaty sound at normal driving. At WOT it screams but not obnoxiously scary loud like before. No drone at all. Pretty happy with the results and still sounds refine like a Benz should . Hope that helps.

Thank you,.. I got a call from Shawn at ACG and he told me someone local might want to trade an E55 exhaust for an E63... I should get my 200 cell ARH cats in by the weekend and then potentially trade out mufflers... Last resort is to add the additional resonators.
