Had Both Belts Replaced @ 75K Miles Now The Squeal Badly at Startup for ~5 Mins
Peeps,
Quick question for you. I had both the main belt and S/C belt replaced about a month ago when I had the beast in for regualar service. Directly after the install the belts squealed pretty badly but as the car warmed up this went away.
I talked to Charles, the master MB Mechanic at AutoHaus in Scottsdale who did the work and he said this should go away in a week or so as the belts were simply new.
Well a month later (and I drive 100 miles a day too and from work), they still squeal pretty badly at start up, even when in park. After about 5 minutes this goes away completely.
Anyone have this issue before? My uneducated guess is either the belts weren't tensioned enough or their just a tiny bit off when it comes to size?
I park in an underground gararge so it's embarrasing frankly as I leave for work and my car is squealing like a stuck pig echoing like crazy as I drive up through the levels.
Thanks!
Alex

Check your idler pulley`sfor bearing wobble (with belt off) and you may also have a bad belt tensioner. Usually the double idler pulley`s go bad on the passenger side.

I have the same problem. On my car it was the serpentine belt. So I replaced it with a 1/2 inch shorter belt. Haven't heard a thing since. I'll get you the part number tonite.

i had the squeal and would go away after a few minutes. But did notice that the double pulley was throwing grease and was not looking to good. Ended up replacing it w the ASP pulley kit.

Thank you again. The part number would be handy as I have the part numbers from the belts he used. My guess is the belts are just a tiny bit too big so they slip when their cold and only when their cold.
Thanks!

I have the exact same problem. Just installed the smaller S/C clutch and 3-piece ASP pulleys along with a new shorter "Green" belt Shardul recommended and my damn belt squeals like a MF for 5 minutes after I start the car. It's embarassing leaving the house and leaving work. I tried spraying the belt with some of that stop squeal stuff but it didn't do anything. The new shorter belt is super tight, I'm hoping it just needs to wear in or something. I didn't change the stock accessory belt, but it didn't squeal before the ASP pulleys went on.

All,
Circling back here and checking the belt number on my receipt he used belt number 5060970 which I believe is probally .6" to long, hence the slipping/sqeeling.
So thank you for helping me solve this!
