euro Mirrors, are they hard to install? I always like the little nifty improvements and modifications you make your car, looks good. Do you have a picture of how the car looks from faraway, of the whole car, with these new mods?

Not difficult at all to change, you just need to know the exact process:

*this is for a non-electric folding side mirror

1. fold and hold the mirror in the folded position through steps 2 and 3 (the mirror is spring loaded)
2. locate the silver retaining clip that locks the cover in place (see image)
3. insert a screwdriver between the retaining clip and black plastic frame and twist or lift to release the clip (the cover will now feel loose)
4. carefully allow the mirror to fold back to its original position
5. slide the cover off, by pulling away from the door frame

installation is reverse:

1. ensure the retaining clip is reset in the "lock position," ready to secure the mirror cover
2. slide mirror cover over the frame and push until the retaining clip locks the cover in place (you'll hear a "click")

The electrical connections for the LED turn signals are all part of the OEM mirror cover and frame, which will disconnect/reconnect as you remove/install the cover

When using the aftermarket mirror cover, you will need to use the supplied wires to connect the harness plug from the mirror frame to the aftermarket mirror cover LED harness.

Hope this helps bro!

I just re-read your post and believe you meant the mirror glass, lol.

Here's the process I followed:
  1. manually tilt the mirror panel down
  2. you'll need to use some type of L-hook or a screwdriver to lift the metal retaining clip (upward), which unlocks the mirror panel from the back pad (see image for metal retaining clip)
  3. while holding the clip in the released position, you can simply pull the top edge of the mirror panel away from the back pad (you will hear 2 plastic clips "snap out" releasing the mirror panel)
  4. lift the mirror panel slightly to release it from 2 bottom brackets and remove the mirror panel
  5. disconnect the terminals for heat and/or harness plug for dimming
Installation is reverse:
  1. you can ease the process of re-installation by "setting" the metal retaining clip of the mirror panel in the "open position" (see right of image)
  2. take mirror panel and insert onto the back pad by dropping the mirror panel onto plastic brackets on the back pad
  3. push the mirror panel onto the back pad and listen for the 2 plastic clips "snap in" to ensure that it's secure
  4. use an L-hook or screwdriver to release the metal retaining clip so that it locks the mirror in place

Hope this is what you need!

Here's some eyecandy shots of the polished bits.

BTW, I'm new to DIY polishing so please don't expect professional results, lol! Knocking down the rough sand cast finish on the surge tanks was a beyatch.

One day, the last component I will polish is the supercharger & snout...wish me luck, gonna def need to take some PTO days.

Ok, I really need to see the cut-off and light out put shots of the ZKW-R lenses. I bought a set for an extra set of housings I'm doing a facelift and some paint work to but I have yet to finish them. I need to see what the end results will be.

Also, Thanks for the DIY on the yellow city lights. Mine came out mint! I actually bought 5 pairs of the canbus LED's just in case but I may paint all of them and see if I can sell them. great simple mod.

Thanks guys...the polishing is not a particularly easy DIY. It's time consuming, repetitive, and there's a learning curve involved.

In a nutshell:
  • knock down the rough cast using a flap wheel
  • wetsand by hand: 320 > 400 > 600 > 1000 > 1500 > 2000
  • start the bench buffer: spiral wheel & black compound (rough cut) > spiral wheel & brown compound (final cut) > loose cotton wheel & white compound (polish)
I bought all my supplies, including the buffer and stand, from my local HarborFreight.

A good DIY is here: http://www.poleringsguide.se/english/

From there, a proper place for supplies/tools are here: www.caswellplating.com

Agree 110%!! I also want to shave the MB Star, but would need to fill-in holes and repaint.

Here's a quick look at the cutoff. Mind you, these are the original OEM Philips 85122 bulbs from 2005, which you can sort of see color shifted to a cooler 5000k. For more output, I have new 4300k Philips 85122 new gen bulbs (aka 85122+), which are not supposed to color shift after time. I still need to swap those in and I'll get back to the slightly yellower, but pure white, color temp.

It's just as simple as swapping out the rear interior door panels.

But...as picky as I am, the two rear door panels that I sourced had leather material that was ever so slightly different to the grade in my car. So I undid all the plastic welding, swap the top portions, and then re-weld. This allowed me to retain the original lowers.
