Centra/north Long Island. We're on high ground so no problem with flooding.

However, our house is surrounded by trees, so that's a concern.

We seem to lose power here all too easily. Last year's Irene, we were out for 5 1/2 days. Our generator crapped out on the last day. As soon as Sandy was forecast to make that left turn, went out looking but eveyone was already sold out. So, keeping our fingers crossed.

We're still remembering the devasting effects of Irene to our backyard:

Be safe everyone !!

My sister is in a Boston suburb and can't get a phone call out already. Has texting though so we communicate through that while still possible. She shouldn't see the worst but its already affecting their area. Stay safe everyone!

I'm curious how this is gonna effect election turnout us its a week away now. Will the mess be cleaned up enough at that point?

I'm like a half hour out of Philadelphia. With Irene last year, my area wasn't that badly affected. I live on a higher hill area and there's only 4 houses where I live. Hopefully it doesn't get too bad. Some cars are out as I just got some cold brews and weed, but definitely not a lot. So far just rain and strong(ish) winds. I pray that nothing falls over or the power goes out. I hope everyone that is in the middle of this stays safe and no ones Benz gets swept away.

I was actually in NYC all weekend. Was suppose to fly out of Newark at 430... United and there royal dumbasses got the wrong plane so half of the seats didnt exist. After hours of different standbys they were telling me they shutting the airport in an hour and how would like a hotel voucher and fly out Wed after the storm. I was like wtf... All my bags had left on that plane so i was even more pissed. Finally when she was giving me a voucher they decided to open the very last flight out of the airport to cleveland then a flight to Houston from there. All said an done landed at 2 AM last night.. i got lucky as hell... good luck to the rest of you... keep us posted and be safe...

I have heard people saying that Ottawa here in Canada is in direct path of it but it's more likely that we will only suffer from changes in weather that's it.

I wish you guys all the best and hope to hear the best of you soon after this is over.

My sisters in Somerville just outside of Boston and has 2 trees down on her block and flickering power already with 50mph wind gusts. I'm sure its much worse to the south as Boston's not really in the direct path.

Elevation 12 feet and VERY close to the ocean.

I've still got power but the lights have flickered a few times already. I figure its just a matter of time before they go out.

Already have 4 trees down in my yard. The chainsaw will be getting a workout in the coming hours/days.

Lost power a couple of hours ago. No problem with that, running on generator now and powering my neighbor too. You can hear the wind picking up outside as time passes. My main concern is all the trees we have and the damage they can cause. A couple of friends have sent some devastating photos from Huntington harbor.

Starbrite, is sounds like you are pretty close to us. We are by the bull if that makes sense to you. Irene left us without power for several days last year.

Our prayers and well wishes go out to those who are also facing the wrath of Sandy.

Market will have tons of Mercedes flood cars flowing in shortly. Keep your eyes peeled on any used cars for the next few months.

Be safe, everyone. We just had a tsunami warning over the weekend. Luckily, it was very mild.

THE DAY AFTER

What a night, the wind howled for hours and the rain was torrential. We are without power and in the dim morning light it looks ominous out side. Maybe I can get some pictures up later. We are in a rural area south of Reading PA. The house stayed together, there were a couple of gusts that shook the entire home!

Hope you guys are all okay back east. My entire family is in the Montclair, Nj area and they won't have power for days. Friends in Manhattan and down the shore are devastated.

Lucked out here near Dulles airport . Rain and wind picked up pretty bad at 8pm til 11pm last night. Few time lights flickered and didn't lose power at all. So glad to not have lost power. At work and skeleton staff today. Still glad to have a generator for backup yesterday. Had the extension cords, oil, gas all ready and to wheel out the generator out back to run it if needed. Hope those up north get power back soon.
