We're expecting our first (the reason i bought a wagon to replace the 2 seater). I'm going to try and fight the good fight by trying to preserve the back seat of the car until the kid's a bit older. Do any of you have any experience with seat covers for the back seat? The car has a charcoal / black interior.

Any other ideas on how to kid-proof the car a bit?

I'm using a cheap leather-looking rear seat covers that cover the bottom and back part of the rear seats.

The front seat by the carseat also has a seat protector.

I use a cheap one that I got off of eBay for my dog. The old one finally gave out (the straps that go around the headrest ripped off) so I bought a new one. My seats don't have any scratches or anything on them.

The first baby seat faces backwards, and odds are you aren't feeding them in the car. About the only risk is that the LATCH system and tensioning strap will crush a seat-sheaped crease into your leather seat. I bought a thick black bathmat and folded it to create a nice soft base to crank the car seat down onto. My kid is almost 2 now (front facing seat now) and the seat still looks perfect underneath.

I programmed one of the buttons on the passenger seat to bring the seat forward when he's traveling with me. That keeps him from kicking & scratching the seatback area. Once he gets a little taller, I'll have to come up with a seatback protector... Probably something that hangs off the headrest posts and can be pulled down to the seat rails so it doesn't flap around.

My kid doesn't eat in the car, and either do I. You can keep the car looking perfect even with a child if you are willing to put in a little effort.

Ps. Congrats on the baby! It's a real life-changer...

In my wifes car, we use a cover that is actually made for pet transportation. It is the same color as the seats (gray), so it is almost unnoticible with the car seats in place. It is also non-permeable, so juice and milk will never make it to the leather seats.
Mine looks nicer. I use the factory seats and leather, and forbid food and drink in the car. LOL

TWO young kids in your life and you still have the time (and financial resources) to reclaim the 1/4-mile E55 record? Mad respect.

I use a Eddie Bauer car seat cover that goes onto the rear seats and has a flap that tucks into the crease to keep it in place and another flap that covers part of the back part of the seats. Seats still look new whenever i pull it out to vacuum or whatever. It looks pretty similar to the one posted above (Kiddopotamus...)

Not quite. As of last month, we have three!!! Time to figure out if the double nickel still suits us.

+1 - i have the same - there is also a mat that connects to the headrest and protects the back of the seat too - so when my buddy is wearing his fireman boots he is not making a mess on the back of the seats. and they are black so they are nearly invisible and when the window shades are up nothing is visible
