E55 power loss
hey guys, So i just bought an 06 e55 amg about two weeks ago(and am loving it) and i was racing my buddy on his e60 m5 and after driving it hard for a short time, it felt as though the power was not all there when i stepped on it again. in fact it was a significant difference. Any one know what this may be linked to? thanks

others will soon chime, you need to replace your intercooler (IC) pump. many debates on what is better; Bosch 010, Johnson CM30, or Meizere.
i went with Meizere.

Do the repair yourself if you can change a light bulb you can probably change the pump. Its behind the front bumper on the passenger side corner. 15-20 minute job if you take your time. I used a couple vice grips with some cardboard wrapped around the jaws to pinch the hoses shut. One bolt and the pump pops out.

I would do it myself if i didn't have warranty on it. but since i do, i would rather have the dealership pay for it and change it. I spoke with them today and told them what my problem is and they said that they will only change it if a code shows up on their computer. Do you guys know if it will. if i can't prove that its the pump thats bad and they can't get a code then I'm not gonna get anything fixed from them.

This place is a joke.
IAT= Intake air temperature
Insist upon taking the shop foreman for a drive to demonstrate the power loss. Ask them to drive the car with Star Diagnosis connected and monitor the IAT's under full power/boost. A weak pump will usually not set any codes.

It's such an easy do-it-yourself swap man, and you get dirty, learn some things, and feel more love and connection to your car in the process. But understandable that you want to take the lazy/safe route and try to have the dealership replace it. Personally I try at all costs to not have someone else touch my baby.. I have seen so many times more help and valuable/accurate information on this forum than what comes from the dealership. It does make sense if you think about it.

i agree with you 100% Jakez. I love working on my own cars and when i had a volvo s60r before this one. i would always do everything myself because i liked to getting to know my car. and connecting like you said. only problem now is that i just spent 32k on my new ride and dont have money right now to pay for the parts. i would love to do it myself though. im not lazy in that aspect. I do believe that i can get better help from guys like you and others from this forum because thats the only way i got around on my volvo. and i am also not a big fan of other people touching my car because if something goes wrong shortly afterwards, it makes me wonder if that was the damn dealership or shop that "ef'd" something up on purpose so that i can come back and spend more money. lol Know what i mean

If I had a warranty I would probably take my problems to the dealership too to be honest haha.

Have the dealership refer to tech bulletin S-B-09.41/22b concerning power loss. There is a guided test that can be performed through Xentry to check the pump. Hope this helps...

Sitting at merc dealership now. They say they can't find any codes on I/c pump and they say they can't hook up comp and track IAT's while driving. Need help quick to tell these morons how to find out that I/c pump isn't working!!!!

Forget going to the dealer, take it to Benz Elite in Alexandria off Telegraph rd. They will install a new pump for you. Buy the bosch 010 online and maybe upgrade to a Eurocharged heat exchanger at the same time.

Have them drive the car and do a few wide open throttle runs, they'll notice power loss pretty quickly if your pump is bad.

Yea I'm gonna take em for a ride in a little to demonstrate the power loss. If I bought one I'd install it myself. But I still have warranty so why pay when it should be covered for free

Depends on what your deductible is... an intercooler pump isn't that costly and from what it looks like it shouldn't be more than an hour or so of (your own) labor.
