Conductor plate.. anything else I should know?

About to replace the conductor plate, connector, fluid & filter in my trans.

The car stopped engaging and just revs no matter where the selector is.

Anything else I should change or check while I am in there?

Are all of the speed sensors that go bad built into the new plate?

i dont think so swapping the conductor plate will solve you issue. I think there are 3 speed sensors on the plate.

Well it's what lead to it doing this that makes me thing that's what it is based on other threads explaining exactly my symptoms... So I'm really hoping it's just that.

The three speed sensors.. are they apart of the plate or are they separate?

Also, would you be able to tell me what you think it could be?

yes they are a part of the conductor plate.

what error codes is star showing?

I also have a conductor plate that is in good working condition. if you want to try that before spending the money on a new plate.

also check the TCU, transmission fluid wicks up through the harness into it.

Yeah I was going to do it in my driveway but I need to get it to a lift as doing it in my driveway isn't really possible lol

When the car is cold it goes into gear.. weird.

Yeah I have a new plate, connector and I'm going to take out the TCU and open it up and possibly clean it.

I believe the newer model E55 s came with the updated connector seal which prevents the Trans fluid from wicking up the wires

so they can still leak.
If i remember correctly the OPs car had some under carriage damage prior to purchase.

The issues were intermittent and then got worse, little worse, here and there even more worse, until this.

So I'm hoping it's my ground plate because before all of these issues started arising i bottomed out on a non painted speed bump pretty hard and the issues slowly started popping up the next day

And the transmission fluid did come out somewhere before becuase last time it was slipping adding fluid is what fixed that particular issue.

So I'm planning on changing the plate and plug, removing and thoroughly cleaning the TCU.. then obviously new filter and fluid.

P.S. I read something about springs breaking in half? That's only with really early versions of this transmission, right?

BTW, does my car have these springs? I read somewhere that they are only in the older versions of this transmission...

Also, is there a drain plug for the converter like in the above post?

Got it off..

In the process, laying on the ground at all, got some crap on the bottom of the valve body from touching it and moving around under the car (rock driveway)...

Is brake cleaner safe to use to clean it?

There might be a plug in the converter,
It is reccomended not to drain it unless you are removing the transmission or replacing the converter,

I've never had any issues with using brake cleaner on it but there are different formulas so just be careful. Whatever you do do not get gravel in the valve body ports. You don't want to turn a $100 conductor plate into a new trans pump, valve body etc..

Yeah I cleaned the crap out of it to be sure.

Also, there is a little yellow plastic piece in there.. made the mistake of not looking exactly how it went.. anyone know?

It's a little yellow plastic piece that when the valve body is out of the car you can spin it and remove it also.

Edit.. I found a pic on Benzworld

it's the piece on the bottom of the black plastic on the left. That yellowish thing. I don't know exactly how that goes when actually putting the valve body back on. I just want to make sure so I don't have to do this all over again lol

That goes on a pin on the internal shift linkage. Should be easy to spot

Whats the best way to clean them? Compressed air and brake cleaner?

I keep finding a little dirt in places, not sure if it's dirt from the driveway or wear from the discs in the trans.
