You will need the steering column electronics, from any 2005-2009 W211.
You also need to replace the existing column harness with part 2114404509 (the old harness looks similar, but it will not fit).
When wiring up the harness, some of the existing wires need to be swapped as the wiring changed slightly.
On the new plug:
Pins 1 and 2 are steering wheel heating (they can be ignored if car is not equipt with it)
Pins 3-6 need to be color matched they are the airbag connectors.
Pins 8-13 stay exactly the same don't switch anything.
My notes from my install were:
Original harness pin -> airbag
4 -> yellow 2
3 -> yellow 1
1 -> green 1
2 -> green 2
New harness pin -> airbag
5 -> yellow 2
6 -> yellow 1
4 -> green 1
3 -> green 2
So pins 3-6 need to be matched up with the old wiring so they connect to the airbag correctly. Use a multi-meter and check continuity from the updated column connector pins, to find which pin is the correct airbag wire.
But do not take my notes as fact, and you should verify which wires to swap yourself(!!)
And finally after all of that, use DAS and disable the old paddle shifters under Drive -> Gear Selector Module -> Adjustments
The new shift paddles will work after this.
Credit goes to Mertd93, as he was the one to figure all this out.
have a 2004 wagon, and want to do this steeringcolumn upgrade.
but i wonder if i need to buy a new steeringcolumn from a sedan or a wagon.
Because my car has rear windscreen wiper, and this switch is located by the seat heating/cooling switch.
and i see te upgraded steeringcolumn(for wagon) has the rear windscreen wiper switch on the indicator stalk.
But the upgraded steeringcolumn(for sedan) dont have the rear windscreen wiper switch on the indicator stalk.
i wonder if i buy a upgraded steeringcolumn for a sedan i can operate my old rear screen wiper switch by the seat heater/colling switch ?`
or do i need the upgraded steeringcolumn from a wagon and then remove my old rearscreen wiper switch ?
I have a 2012 S550 W221
My buttons don't work after replacing the Steering Wheel Controller, which is a black box right behind the airbag. I have to program this controller. Does anyone know how I could reprogram this controller?
Thanks
I've been chatting back and forth today with Revotech about their W213 wheel and they tell me it's a direct replacement to the wheel in my '08 E63. All buttons, horn, and Brabus CF shift paddles would be operational. Still finalizing cost on the custom wheel.
bolt it on is one thing... all button lights up and function is another.
its a risk you have to take.... when I did my 2010 sl63 wheel I wasn't sure if it was going to work or not .. I just guessed because I bet it was the same as the old SL / CLS which is interchangeable with e55.
these newer wheels I don't think all the buttons will work. GL
RevotechMotorsports makes these wheels, My buddies company. I currently Have a w212 wheel sitting in my room in a bunch of pieces, working on getting all the buttons and such to work.
going into my 04 w211 e55
Anyone able to get a w212 wheel on a facelift w211 yet? Very interested
I am working on a solution for this right now. The shifters will not be an issue as they are already electronic on the facelift, But the buttons pose an issue. once i figure out the buttons the rest should be a cake walk

lots of people say lot of things ... ill believe it when I see it.
even if you get it to plug up none of your buttons will work, nor will the paddle shifters. you need to rewire all the button circuit boards and you need to get a module to convert your shifters to electronic. there is a ton of work that needs to go into this project. I started but had to put it off due to work. good luck with it
hi
thanks for your reply!
The car is 270CDi with manual gearbox, so I won't need shifters
I only need the board computer buttons get to work. I thought following this guide, I would have success.
What I should do?
any help is welcome!
HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YA'LL!
Yes, it CAN be done. Bolt on at that!!
W205/218/R190 wheels can be used in our W211/219's.
Be warned they are N-O-T cheap (I would say almost about 1/4 the cost of an old E55).
I asked him if his 205 wheel would work in my 219 and he said "100%"
He will send you images of W218/205 wheels in W211/219's.
Here is the contact details of the individual doing this in Germany.

more details please. Would this work on a 04 e55? Do buttons still work?

I don't know, I haven't tried it, as I can't afford it. I did a similar swap on my 204 after pulling out most of my hair...and bank balance.
I was in touch with the seller and he was vehemently positive that it does. I realize the 2003/4 W211 steering wheel is different from the later ones, but I don't see why it shouldn't work...?

Hi Lads
Any updates on this?
Has anyone tried this or pulled the trigger on one of the newer wheels?
I have tried messing around with a 204 AMG wheel and I couldn't get it to work. No matter what I did. It was ugly with soldered boards and wires everywhere. Also, I am sure the column module will have to be changed also - the diameter of the wheel where it fits the column module (at the back) on the new ones is MUCH larger than our wheels.
So for those of you interested in the getting a new wheel installed in your w211:
yes it can be done, yes you can get a w205 wheel in your w211
no it is not cheap
no you dont need to swap the steering column.
I spoke with a company in germany that takes the new steering wheel and modifies the shaft, shaving it down so that it can fit the steering column on the w211 models.
they manufactured a switch board that allows all the buttons to function properly, buttons work, lights work, horn works
heres the catch. and i quote "because everything is hand made from the wheel to the chip the price is not pretty"
if you want all this done it will set you back 950 EURO (from what i can tell that 950 for just the board but i could be wrong)
So if you decide to go that route they can build it for you if you want to do it yourself you can buy the chip from them but it will be pricey
if you dont want to spend about 2 grand for all that I would just go to revotech and get a carbon wheel made with upgraded paddled from 2014+ that will set you back a little over a grand, best part is you get your wheel in 2-3 weeks
