I came across one that had a flat top and bottom, but all leather, perforated leather at 3 and 9 o’clock for $899. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264038358784

This is a sweet one from Ledermanz. And I know that it will most likely sell quick, now that I have identified it 😁 And I would strongly consider buying this one, if I didn’t already have a nice one. Love the Affalterbach Crest and it comes with an airbag. So read the description and buy it right now before someone else does. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254624057223

Here is another one from Ledermanz. https://www.ebay.com/itm/264678354625

Thank you! I've already bookmarked few their steering wheels but I think I like your steering wheel more than what they have for sale.

I think that this is the best looking wheel on the site, other than the carbon fiber ones. https://www.ebay.com/itm/254624057223
But of course, it's your choice

Yeah, that looks nice too! I may consider buying it. I wonder what is more practical - to have Alcantara on the sides or on the top? Sometimes I just rest my arm on the top of the steering wheel but most of the time I hold it with just few fingers on one side.

Well if you don’t purchase this wheel soon, then someone else will, now that I have identified it. As far as where you would like to have Alcantara, it really depends on how you hold your steering wheel. The big key to taking care of Alcantara is keeping it clean. The oils from your hands and arm will transfer to the Alcantara, and overtime will get embedded and the fibers compacted and will look like crap, if not cared for. Just look at all of those who purchased C63 with the P31 packages, their wheel look like crap now. My wheel has been on the car for about a year now, and still looks brand new. And it’s a daily driver to boot. Definitely purchase SONNAX Alcantara Interior Cleaner, and a small but soft scrub brush, and follow the recommended instructions. Like I said earlier, I keep hand sanitizer in the car just for my hands, and use it every time, before I ever touch the wheel. 👍🏽

The steering wheel that I bought back in 2013/2014 for my E55 was from DCT. It was the DTM Style wheel with the flat bottom. Then I replaced the buttons in the back of the original wheel and installed some excellent paddle shifters. The steering wheel definitely changes the look and feel of the car drastically. Here are some current pictures for reference:

what all needed to be done to fit the paddles over the buttons? Love the wheel BTW.

I think I like your steering wheel more than the last one you found. I'd wait for it. The only thing I noticed it seems Benz metal logo insert is not sitting tightly on your airbag case. It seems there is a tiny gap. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually while writing this message I looked up a CLK63 BS steering wheel and I think I'd get it as well:

Here is my current OEM steering wheel lol:

Thanks for the kind words.

Here is a thread that can answer your questions about the paddles; it is nicely written along with pictures:

Hope this helps!

I'm not sure if earlier E55 and later E55 should follow the same procedure. My CLS55 is 2006 model year. I wonder if I get a new steering wheel from Ledermanz which comes with paddle shifters then should I do any modifications or it's plug and play?

I’m not familiar with Ledermanz steering wheels but the thread I linked above was for the W211 E55’s (2003-2006).

Maybe someone with a CLS can provide information regarding the wheel you have chosen.

Thanks. I read it again. It seems the model year is important too. Please check this thread there. I linked post #6 where Slowanrusty says it's plug and play for late 2005 and 2006 models "providing you have the steering wheel guts and harnesses from a CLK63 \ E63 \ CLS63 \ CLK550 \ S550 \ S63":

https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...ml#post4956278

So my guess that I need to ask Ledermanz to use guts and harnesses from one of those models above.

As far as my experience with Ledermanz, my wheel was plug & play and without any issues. I rechecked my steering wheel and the Mercedes Star fits flush up against the airbag. I believe the photo had a shadow that gave that illusion.

I would urge anyone looking to replace their steering wheels, to check out Ledermanz on Instagram to view all of their designs that they currently offered. The steering wheels offered for Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes are beautiful, well crafted, and the quality is simply flawless.

Besides they can craft a steering wheel anyway you desire with different materials, all dependent upon how much money your willing to spend.

thanks I had the paddles back in 2015 but then the car was wrecked before i could do it all. I got rid of all the parts and was being lazy to look for the newest info since it has been 5 years. I see old Chris aka Mikey33 directions are still the best.

I am getting the car back soon after 4 owners have had it so I want to get this done again. Thanks for the help. May just order a nice new carbon fiber and leather one with the paddles done already.

E55 AMG 2004

Mission Accomplished!

Finally got the paddles working today, so now everything works as it should, all buttons included.
My car is a January 2004 car, did all things that are mentioned in this thread and it works.
I have a question, though, same as someone else already asked but no one ever answered. Why don’t just say the wires from the old connector needs to be switched to color match the ones in the new connector? If done exactly like in the instructions here, the airbag wire colors are mixed. Not that it (apparently) matters, but still, I think it would be more clear to just color match the wires.

I also had some problems clearing the old paddles in DAS. The action to clear the paddles was refused, my tuner had to use another application to do it, even in that application the action was refused a few times. Don’t know why like this, but eventually it was ok to clear the setting and as said, now everything works ! 👍

I can you tell from personal experience the shift paddles are plug-n-play. They fit the W211 and the W219. I installed my Ledermanz wheel last year, without any issues. My wheel came with plastic paddles covered in Alcantara, which a switched out for the OEM Aluminum paddles. My original wheel was lost during shipping once it arrives in the US, so Alek made me a new one, and only had the plastic paddles. The good thing is he made it and had it shipped to me within a weeks time 😁.

YES .... YES YES ...... (didn't I already tell you?) YOUR 2006 CLS55 IS paddle compatible . As long as you get the correct paddles, they will be plug and play (the correct paddle set has the down paddle wired to pins 1 and 3 of its connector) . If you get the wrong set of paddles, you will need to move one wire in the down paddle connector.
How do I know this? I have been doing ALL of DCTmotorsports paddle conversions since 2011 and I manufacture a variety of paddle integration products for Mercedes, Porsche and Chrysler vehicles (including the "paddle converter module" .

PLEASE (everyone) add your YEAR and MODEL info to your posts so that people can give you correct answers AND so that people searching will know when they have found info that pertains to their car. Also, it is helpful if you include what part of the world you are in as some model/year details differ between regions (example ... a 2004 European model of a W211 can be more like a 2005 US model than a 2004 in configuration).
Cheers and stay safe,
Chris

Thank you! I plan to use OEM aluminum shifters from CLS63/E63 W219. I hope they are "correct" ones.

Thank you! I hope they will install shifters. Currently Idk how to install shifters. If they (LederManz) can supply OEM shifters with a steering wheel it will be nice!

They should be fine. The set that I recommend is part number 171 267 00 46. This set is what I use on most all paddle conversions and can be found for the lowest price (as low as 150 for pair). They have the down paddle connector properly pinned for your application and comes with the longer down paddle harness which will simplify installation on your wheel.
Cheers,
Chris
