Hi,
I've been a long time here reading a lot of topics about the W211 E55. Im about to buy one, with around 70,000KM. (43500 Mile)
I have an W210 E55, the costs of parts and maintenance is cheap and affordable for me.
But for the W211 E55, Ive read that the most common problems are, IC Pump, Airmatic ( not a problem for me ), Supercharger pulleys, and some others I can't remember. Also people here tells me its same as W210 E55 but the problem is the supercharge that keeps failing.
I will use the car as a Daily drive, and im not going to mod it much, just pulley , johson 30CM and a tune. just looking for 500+ Hp/Tq
I really loved the car after Ive test drive it. but am afraid of its repairing costs. So from your experience guys, is it maintainable for someone who can maintain a W210 E55 ?
Sorry for my bad English and if I didn't search well for this topic.

I have both, W211 almost 4 years and W210 2 years so far. From my experience, they are about the same in repairs which is not much. W211 airmatic suspension, engine/tranny mounts, CPS, SC bearing are common problem. W211 will cost a bit more in long run but I don't think by much.
W211 => Both battery, water pump, Tranny mount, tires, IC pump, Spark plugs, tranny service and oil change. (for the last 4 years $3K not include header and tune)
W210 => Battery, tires, brakes, tranny service. ($2200)

Thanks for reply, I think they are the same engine but the w211 is the m113 engine but supercharged . So the parts are almost the same ?Originally Posted by CharlyE500

To put it into perspective for you.....
W210 - I have driven 33k miles since I got it at the end of 2010 and it hasn't broken down once. All costs associated with the car were wear and tear items and maintenance (balljoints, LCA bushings, bearings, spark plugs/wires, VC gaskets, oil/ trans fluid change, etc.).
W211 - I've driven 5k miles since I got it a year ago and most of my costs associated have been for repair. I've had it towed home once because the voltage regulator died on me. Then my airmatic airline leaked so one side dropped then I had to replace the airmatic pump because of a stuck airmatic relay. My IC pump was also dead when I got the car so I upgraded it along with the HE.
I do all the work on my car myself so I only pay for parts. I've spent approx. $1650 on the W210 in 33k mi. I've spent about $1500 on the W211 in the last 5k mi. and I haven't even finished replacing all the wear and tear items yet (balljoints squeaking, VC gaskets leaking). Add the labor costs on top of my prices and you can be the judge.

tires are not included... they tend to wear out on these cars more offten than usual

I really loved the W210 and it was fun to drive , but after i have driven the W211 , it has a different definition for enjoyment

Is the car reliability gets effected if it is slightly modded ?
