E63 wagon with third row

I am a new member with the unfortunate task of trying to replace my 2008 E63 wagon because it caught fire while my wife was driving it. I have done the traditional Internet searches and happen to be a GM of a VW dealership so I have access to auction data and listings. That being said, I thought I would throw it out there and maybe get lucky for once in my life and see if someone was thinking of getting rid of theirs. It must have the third row.
Thanks,
James

Curious. How did it catch on fire? Fuel leak issue?

No idea how it started. Wife was driving it, merging onto a highway and it was acting like it had no power but was revving. She pulled over and saw what she thought was steam. She got out of the car and then saw flames and up it went.

That sucks! Good luck with your search. I'm glad no one was hurt.

sorry to see it go down in flames - good luck with your search - there are a few on ebay now - seems to go in waves - and right now there is no wave

This is your best bet-there is a dedicated group of wagoneers that post every time a w211 e5/e63 is up for sale. Follow this thread, and best of luck!

Sorry to see your wagon turned into a crispy critter. Will you send me the vin, miles, and color combo so I can add it to the registry?
As mentioned before, follow the wagon for sale thread, I try to list all wagons for sale there....

That car is already in the registry, did you buy it from Speedcraft VW in NJ?

How many miles were on it when it burned?

It was traded at Princeton Porsche and they wholesaled it to me at Speedcraft VW in Rhode Island. I am the GM of Speedcraft VW and personally bought it from the company for my wife.

It had approximately 66k miles - insurance was here today and wanted to know the same thing but the dash is a little crispy. I contacted MBUSA this morning by email and have heard nothing from them.

Hopefully you picked up that 08 E63 wagon in CA (listed in the wagon for sale thread yesterday). It looked just like your car that burned (not sure if it had the 3rd row option or not...)

Wow, sorry to hear that man. Glad nobody was hurt, but you should really see if you can dive into the cause of this. The fuel leak issues on these cars are starting to unfold a bit and finding out that your scenario was an outcome of the problems could really help the safety recall.

I have been speaking to MBUSA and it appears they might send an engineer to look at what is left.

2008 E63 wagon
So the engineer came from NJ and wanted me to hire a tow truck to haul itinto the service department and up on a lift which I declined. He was a goodguy and when I had a talk with him about how hard it was to find another one, especiallywith a third seat, he said without hesitation "I wouldn't let anyone ridein the back." I asked for his explanation and he told me if any highertruck rear-ended the wagon, it would miss the structural support and would havedeep penetration into the back. I asked if this was the same for a GL with lessdistance between the back and the seats and he stated the bumper structure ishigher in the GL and would protect the occupants better. This from a man withno children - he must have seen some nasty stuff. I told my wife and she agreed with me that we are now looking for a GL or X5. Some day when the kids are bigger we will be back...

Sounds like a good excuse to put a cage in the back of the wagon, problem solved

interesting. I always intended the third row for OTHER children, and not my own... certainly they don't fit any adults.
