Worth Buying 2004 E55 w/ High Mileage?
Hey guys. Been looking to buy a 2nd car for a few months now. Tried to buy a SL, but looks like the ABC problems are too prevalent and unavoidable.
I found this 2004 E55 near my house for sale. It's listed at $17,500 and has 111k miles which is pretty high. Car is completely stock and has full service records from when this owner has had the car. Car also has a bumper to bumper Chrysler warranty. It is good for another 3 years or until 150k miles. He says everything from the past 2 years has been covered by the warranty and he has records for them all. Car looks pretty clean in the pictures and I've sent the owner an email asking to see it this weekend if possible.
Does this sound like a safe car to purchase? Any particular questions I should ask when I go see the car? Any possible holes in the warranty? Thanks guys!

with the warranty you get some piece of mind. i got mine with 118K and now have 125k no major issues other than the rear air susp wen out but $650 for 2 new air shocks and i did the simple install.
I say jump on it. Color and pano roof?

silver, but no pano. still not sure if i should just look for something with less mileage. i'll probably have the car and push it pretty hard for longer than the 3 years.

The Chrysler warranty makes it a great deal at $17.5k. The three years will be relatively cost free due to the warranty, so it would make a great beater. Dump it after the warranty runs out, or just prior.

Picked up mine with 128k now have 137k. Had it for a year and so far replaced a failed front strut, weak suspension compressor, motor mounts and tranny mount, valve cover gaskets, alternator, main battery, and some suspension bushings. Was to be expected during purchase so no surprises. It's my daily driver and runs like a raped ape!

I'm guessing modding would be out of the question due to the warranty. Does this include cosmetic mods (including different wheels)? also...is this a car I should get a pre-purchase inspection for? or does the warranty kind of make that pointless?

If it has a warranty, PPI is useless.

All kidding aside..bc of the warranty, there is not much to check. Just check the warranty and make sure that it is transferrable and see what the deductible is. Other then that, check for paint work that might have been done in the past, but if there was any, and it was done nicely then no biggie. Check the average mpg and see if it is like 10mpg then it was recently driven a bit rough. Mine is 14.9 for the past 600 miles and I have no highway near me, almost all local driving but I did drive about 350 miles on the highway. Try and negotiate of course and get it as cheap as you can. Good luck.
