Lowering Method (STAR, Links or Module)

Pro's and cons for each?

I'm looking into lowering my car and installing a set of 20" Vossen wheels.

Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Buy a STAR and do it yourself, or find someone with a Star set up.. I have the RENNtech module, but for the price I could have gotten a Star and done other tweaking as well.

I have the V2 module with remote and like the additional lowering range it provides compared to the STAR method and the ease of adjusting the ride height over just using links

This. I have the V2 from Programa with the remote (makers of Renntech ELM V2) and the adjust-ability on the fly without having to mess with links or bust out a laptop with multiplexer and cables when I want to change height makes it worth it. The programa module i have seen new in the 8-900 range but they pop up used on the forums every once in a while. I got mine used for 400.

STAR is still an amazing tool and is not just for lowering so do not discount it from your consideration. If you plan on keeping the car for a while or doing your own work you should pick one up.

You can also lower with washers up front and bending the bracket a little in the rear. You didn't have that on your list Mine is actually lowered 1" with star and then some washers in the front to make it a little lower up front.

I have a set of lowering links that didn't decide to use. Ended up using star on e55 and Renntech v3 on e500

same here star lowering alone isn't enough imop. but you do have to worry about suspension bottoming out on this car if you go to low and hit a big enough bump. not pleasant when that happens.

I've got links and couldn't be happier tbh. Takes me like an hour to adjust the height range from my 18" winter wheels to my 19" summer wheels, then I'm set and happy to just use the buttons by the shifter depending on my mood.

I was reading somewhere that if you lower your car via STAR in the Raised mode, you'll get a better overall drop once you take it out of that mode and then even better when you put it in Sport 2. Does anyone have pics of that?

Just throw some washers on the front sensors and bend the rear sensor bracket a little.

Yeh me too. When I notice rough roads or have any other doubts I hit the raise button. No lowering module needed for that.

I have STAR lowering + 2 washers in the front and the rear bracket mounting point drilled out and moved. I'd recommend bending the bracket instead of moving it.

I guess it all depends on price and convenience and what each is worth to you. Are you willing to spend an extra $600 over lowering links to be able to press a button and lift the car to the height of your liking.

Do you know if there is a video on how you did that? I'm not exactly sure what i'm looking at.

Not sure if you're still active but this worked perfectly for me. Got my W218 CLS sitting perfectly. Thanks a ton!
