'06 E55 Windshield placement for toll transponder (ezpass) HELP!

I feel like I have searched everywhere & can't find any documentation for this vehicle regarding the IR coated windshield. I'm pretty sure it has it because my toll transponder works like a charm when poked out the window or sunroof or inside my other vehicles. I've heard the S class has areas documented in the manual but I must be an idiot because I cannot find the spots! I could just order an externally mounted tag but they're butt ugly & I'm too lazy to find a place in the grill to zip tie it underneath.
Did they not bother leaving non-coated zones back in '06? Has anyone gotten theirs to operate in a like-year model? I go thru 2-4 tolls a day & need to find a fix. Any help would be appreciated!

This place is a joke.
E class does not have the coating like the S-Class on the front windshield. My transponder works fine behind the mirror on the pass side.

I'll try remounting. But this is the first vehicle I've had that either holding up to the windshield OR leaving sit on dash will not allow the transponder to be read. The windshield does appear to have some type of coating (although it doesn't have the metallic look of the S class) The only other variable is they just replaced my transponders with the half size versions, not sure if they are less sensitive & maybe a contributing factor?

On the s-class you can see the cutout inside the windshield when looking at an angle. You may try and see if there is something similar on the E, but I doubt it. I've never noticed one on the E and never had a customer complain about it.

Same. My 06 reads my tag just fine. Mine is placed just under the the rain sensor. I can't see the tag from the driver's seat.

Stupid question- but was your front windshield tinted by the previous owner? I see it here once in a while, it's illegal but some are done so light it's hard to tell.

There were some E-classes that came with this from the factory as an option. Well, per what my service rep told me when i had MB replace my windshield a while back anyways. You should be able to give MB your VIN and see if your car has it or not.

UPDATE: I have yet to check the VIN w/ MB which is on my list to do, but it appears that the newer 1/2 sized EZPASS transponders are not as strong as the previous generation. My old version could be laying on the dashboard or even sitting on the console & would still be read! I found a spot under the mirror mount that seems to be working when mounted, however didnt when I was holding unit to the wíndow, go figure! I can tell it's taking longer to be read also since I have to drive slower & it doesn't register as early in the toll gate as the old device. So it's a performance sacrifice for slightly smaller aesthetics...

I have mine next to the bottom middle of glass where the state inspection sticker is. Also good to hide the radar detector behind the sticker.
