My car to is starting to exhibit this issue at traffic lights and idle. What mine does is the following:
Come to a stop or slow role
After a few seconds the tb starts to close
Idle drops and car will cut out or to try correct itself the car surges up to 1500rpms
At that point codes are thrown
These symptons are only under vacume and I have 1000cc inj, e85, bip tune, 82mm tb, 3000 stall, 3.06 gears with clk55 tcu etc.........

Not to derail this thread, but I am interested and can't find a credible answer as to whether in these cars, the ECU does open-loop at WOT?
There are lambda tables that appear to have settings/adjustments the whole way across the load/RPM range. Does it even matter at WOT/high-load because ECU goes open-loop.
The stock O2-sensors are not widedband, nor are they fast enough to matter, IMHO.
Any insights appreciated.

yes the car goes into open loop under WOT and has a set a/f ratio in Open loop. every fuel injection car pretty much does open loop upon WOT.. Closed loop is for cruising, emissions, MPG unless it has a wide- band closed loop option.. Only stand alones at this time

I completely Agree. I had a Kleemann tune with 80mm TB tried to pass emissions and car was pig rich at idle. well after datalogging, I find out my Kleemann tune was staying in open loop (25 sec)after decel from 2500rpm to idle and dumping fuel.. then would correct itself once it went back into closed loop..
I then installed with no other changes a Eurocharged tune. the open loop to closed loop transition changed from (25sec) with the kleemann tune to (5sec) with eurocharged tune and was able to pass ca emission 2 weeks ago with just rear cats.

Does anybody know if ECU's could be swapped from let say a sl55 with the 80mm TB to our e55's? Would this 1) be possible? 2) maybe it could fix this issue since it was made to work with the 80mm tb.

From what I understand you cannot use an SL55 ECU but you can use a CLS some of which came with an 80mm TB. However as OP said none came with 82mm.Originally Posted by bstudey01

Just thinking if the ecu had different programming already on it for the 80, the 82 would not make as big a difference. Considering our ecu was programmed originally with a 74mm on the car. Not sure this would work, and I'm sure an ECU would be hard to find and very expensive to buy new to try outOriginally Posted by SavMan

I like what you're thinking, but swapping one wouldn't be the way to go. Comparing the coding between the two and looking at the differences would be how I'd do it. Oh, and when I see "how I'd do it" I of course mean JerryOriginally Posted by bstudey01

Yes. That is a great thought on the other ecu.
I have figured out...that when the car acts up, the ecu has seen an implausable figure from the map sensor. It goes into a "save the catalytiic converter" mode and plugs in a pre-determined value that would work for the stock set up. But modded, runs lean as ****. Until you restart

Do you know where to get a 80mm tb CLS ecu??? I assume they are alot of money from MB. Maybe somebody has one from a junk car

You can't plug in any ECU since they are vin coded. A tune from an SLR would be good considering its pullied, got a big TB, headers, and cams, I would have to think it would be the best option for us and would have more range on the map sensor.

So, I'm doing more research on the ECU's. Did you guys know there were apparently 4 different part #'s for the ECU's on the e55's. Maybe this would explain why others with the exact same mods have no issues at all and other do? Here are the part #'s I found and the link to where I found them: http://www.mercedesecm.com/e55-ecm.html

Not sure which I have but I'm going to check in the morning and will post it. Maybe others with the issue can post theirs and we will see if we all have the same ECU. Then if some with the 82's that are working flawlessly have different part #'ed ECUs we may be on to something there.

Looks like this company can vin code them for you http://www.mercedesecm.com/e55-ecm.htmlOriginally Posted by adianaty

I would think the tuners should be able to do this too, as well as any dealer, probably done with star??

I had the same exact issues as all of you with the bigger TB, then Ali D suggested the below to me. So far so good, after about 2 weeks doing this:
If you have star, Go to ME-SFI, control unit adaptations, learning processes, default initialization.
Once you start it, you should hear your fan go on real quick. This clears ALL of the adaptations and will let the car reset correctly.

^^^^ Seemed to work with the first 90mm TB but it crapped out. Now on the second one and can't get it to go away. Few more things to try before I find a cliff and break the 1/4 mile record by free falling the car.

Thanks brotha. Promised myself that I won't mod it until the E55 is running like a swiss watch. Its really been hard to keep the wrenches off of it since they respond so well to mods. But lets just say I'm in the accumulation stage of the mods. I think my garage is good for an easy 250hp bump on that thing Originally Posted by DVC

Anyone with a working 82 TB going to check there ECU number?
We should also compare SW and HW version
