E63 Regret - Revised

You may recall a few weeks ago I posted a thread called E63 Regret (https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...63-regret.html). I'm a new owner of an 07 E63 and came from a Lexus with 170K trouble free miles. I've been a little dismayed at all of the "bugs" of the AMG. BUT.......things are looking up. Here's an update that some may find interesting.

Problems to date (I bought it 45 days ago);

1. ESP Sensor went out
2. Trunk wiring cut at hinge (fixed this myself in 30 minutes)
3. Check engine light came on (P0392 cam sensor)
4. Emissions fan in right front runs continuously
5. A few episodes of not shifting out of 1st
6. Warning message about low key battery, even though I've replaced them
7. 3 days ago the car just won't start. Turns over, but never cranks

Here's the "good" news - my neighbor is a Merc tech at a big local dealership . I picked up a new steering sensor and he replaced it in 30 minutes. Then we hooked it up to STAR diagnostics. It shows all front engine sensors (4 cam and crank) are bad. We deduced the probability of that happening is slim. When you throw in the front fan running continuously it looks like there's a short somewhere in the wiring at the front of the engine.

We're going to hook it to a breaker box at the dealership and see if we can pinpoint it. Once we solve that and reset the ECU and Trans Control we should be good to go......FINGERS CROSSED.

Love the car, just ready to be able to drive it sans surprises. I'll send updates as they come in.

I hope you get her all settled up.
I hate reading about someone not enjoying their AMG.
Good luck.

sounds like you could have purchased a hidden flood car.

This is a prime example of why I never purchase the first year a car is made; just too many bugs/gremlins to work out. Either that or you have a lemon on your hands.

Hope things work out, man.

Thanks for the feedback and support. I'm confident we'll get things sorted out. It's not a flood car as it came from Cali and the service records that came with it seem to be pretty complete. Nothing out of the ordinary. I agree with Armo, though. I wanted an 08 or 09, instead of a first year car. The deal was pretty good though so I took a chance.

I'll send out some updates as I get them.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a first year car because it's still a W211 which have been around since 2003. Yes, the power train is different but the majority of the electronics and those things are relatively the same.

Could be a simple ground issue somewhere.

Sir-Boost-a-Lot, has a point,, try fastening a ground strap from the engine to the frame.

Grounds: I think my AMG's are the first car I've even owned that appears to have some very well done grounds. They are all over, BIG cables, fastened down well, etc.
Some of the Jap cars I've owned were apparently trying to save yen on the grounds.

If a ground issue were the cause of this problem -rather than a large ground strap for chassis /engine,it would more likely be a ground for an individual circuit, or sometimes a common ground to a group of local circuits. Sometimes a fastener that holds a ground to the chassis gets corroded from salt or moisture, or someone else may have added another wiring ring terminal using the same bolt and it vibrated loose.. Who knows.

Electrical problems sometimes are easy to catch, and sometimes you've just got to spend some time with a schematic and a multimeter going through the test motions.
