Belt slipping/squeeling?
Hi
Yesterday I had the belts replaced on the front of the engine: one been the supercharger belt and the other the drive belt. I used Continental belts and they were the standard size. I do have a slightly smaller supercharger pulley from Shardul for an extra 1.5 to 2.0 psi and have never had any issues with regards to belt slippage.
Anyway I only replaced the two belts as preventative maintenance as I purchased the car 7 months ago and don't know how old the belts really were and as my car now has some modificaitons I thought I should do it. Now when the supercharger kicks in and under 100% acceleration I am definetly getting belt slippage and it is very loud.
Is their a way to fix this? Is it my supercharger belt or drive belt?
Regards,
OZZYAMG

Hi
My problem is the belt also squeals even when the engine is warm. I thought the MB serpentine belts were identical and in fact made by Continental?

That sucks, are you going to swap belts too?

My belt sqeals whenever I accelerate hard and the blower is engaged. What brand of belt did you use?
I don't know if I should order a genuine MB one?

Yes after I changed to the mb serp belt all was good
To see if it's the sc belt or serp belt do this..,when the car is cold take off the sc belt and start the car and see if there's squealing , if there is then its the serp belt

Hi
Ok I am a little confused now. If I order a replacement supercharger belt from a MB dealer, isn't it classed as a serp belt?
Or is the serp belt the other "drive belt" that does not touch the supercharger pulley?
Can I drive my car hard and under 100% acceleration if the supercharger belt is removed?
regards,
OZZYAMG

The serp is the accessory belt an doesn't touch the sc
Can't really drive it hard without the sc belt because the sc can't engage but you will able to hear the serp belt if it squeals

Hi
At this point in time I can only hear the belt squeal at 100% throttle and when it is on boost and accelerating quickly. I don't think I will hear any belt squeal if I dirve the car slowly as I couldn't half an hour ago when I went round the block in the rain.
So I would still like to know if I can drive the car 100% repeatedly without any supercharger belt on?

I continue to have excellent results using Goodyear GatorBack belts. I also have noticed GatorBacks being used by various race teams.

There are 2 belts the serpentine belt and the supercharger belt.
Or is the serp belt the other "drive belt" that does not touch the supercharger pulley?
Yes
Can I drive my car hard and under 100% acceleration if the supercharger belt is removed?
I would strongly advise against that.

I forgot, It was from a reputable used parts source. A lot of german cars use. But, I guess MB is different.

Hi
Ok I want to purchase the BEST and most RELIABLE belt for my supercharger that is utilising a Shardul pulley for the extra 1.5 to 2.0 psi and hopefully using the new belt will mean no more belt slip or else I may else put my old belts back on.
Can somebody give me the make and exact part number of what to order? Or even better a weblink of someone that ships to Australia and I will order it immediately.

OZZYAMG

Here's a stupid Q for those that have been in there. How do you release the tension on the serpentine belt? The blower belt I could do with my eyes closed but didn't see how to get the other one loose. I'm guessing its something simple I missed but after looking around for a couple min I said screw it and did just the blower belt.
I have whatever better brand rock auto sells that felt pretty soft to me for an automotive belt that I'd like to get on and try. It was much softer and more pliable then the green HD gates or regular serpentimes. Hopefully that means it will stick nicely and not slip.

Anyone with a tip on removing the accessory belt? Didn't see the tensioner when I glanced around a bit. Maybe I was just blind though.

Wow, 19 posts and nobody mentioned the Shardul bet wrap kit?
This will most definitely solve your belt slip/squeal problem and as an added bonus, you will pick up 1-2 psi from the belt not slipping. If you're in there replacing things and putting this on, might as well go with the ASP idler pulley kit, available from... yep, you guessed it, Shardul.
I have been running this belt wrap kit for almost a year and it is great. I am not using OEM belt, either.

OK the belt screech noise at start up went away. I just sprayed some brake cleaner on the belt started it up and drove it that day. Sound all gone... I went and purchased a new supercharger belt just in case. Turns out its ok for now. I guess I have an extra belt.
