Mercedes leads in US luxury car thefts
I read an article online today where it describes that Mercedes has the worst car theft rate in the USA. The C Class was stolen 485 times in NYC boroughs between 2009 and 2012. The E Class and S Class round out the top then luxury brands to be stolen. The 3 series and Infiniti G Series are on the top ten as well.
I would have never thought these cars to be on the priority list. Insurance for my E55 is really cheap. I pay about $80/month to insure the car. The news above is going to make me think twice about getting into another benz. If thieves are looking for these cars (and Miami is a hotspot with 647 luxury cars stolen already this year)....i would think twice about getting these cars. These cars are obviously targeted for their parts or sold overseas complete. Why else would anyone steal them. The technology must have improved leaps and bounds. I was always under the impression our keys with its infrared signal were impervious to thieves. So somehow someway someone is pulling a gone in sixty seconds plot with our cars.
Again another pitfall with my argument over the mass production of Mercedes Benz. First it was the horrible depreciation, now its on a list as a potential theft target. Anytime you exponentially increase the numbers on a product esp a luxury one, the car is going to take a beating on depreciation and now bc its so popular....its now a target for thieves.
Here's the full article.

Lojack will have to resort being sold in the kiosks at the mall.

They're not stealing em by bypassing security features on the car....
You're not really stopping one of these. It's been the new way to steal cars for a few years. The FBI busted a few rings in Chicago in the last year or two.
