I was wrong. Just 2 pumps. Look at the lines on first diagram. I think we are getting close my friend.

We can eliminate the stock filter by adding a line filter to (a). Change the (M3) with 2 Walbros or aeromotives. Fitment size should not matter for the Pumps (if they are smaller). You were right about the 4th line (c), it equalizes the fuel level on both sides of the tank.

Groove66.
Can you take a picture of the fuel pumps sock?
I am trying to find a replacement part number, that would benefit anyone who does not want to replace the pumps. The civic or camry ones appeard to have the same angle.

I just got off the phone with Tony at Buckhead Performance. It was good talking to him. He said yes there are upgraded fuel pumps for our E55s. Its the aeromotive pumps (that Chawkins had referenced). Tony did say that there was some mod that had to be done to the aeromotive pump to make it a "drop in/plug in" and play replacement for our oem pump. They will chime in to this thread with more info.

All you have to do is drill slighly larger holes in the housing so the pumps can pull more fuel in. They (aeromotive part # 11140) fit right in place, but the wiring needs to be spliced. Once you have both pumps infront of you and ready to replace the stockers, you will see what needs to be done.

Those aeromotive pumps don't come with fuel filters but you can order as accessories I believe...I was just curious what you did with regards to the filters...

Fuel pump suck attached at the bottom. The OEM pump suck has a 90 degree angle.

I would LOVE to replace my pumps after reading some more information on the stock pumps and filters....

Craig / BIP - Can you respond to the fuel filter questions ? Given that you are using the aeromotive fuel pump, did you just use the flat filter that came with the kit http://www.americanmuscle.com/aeromo...tV1&adtype=pla

or did you upgrade to something better ?

Stock pumps are 300lph each. I took apart my fuel pump basket the other day so if anyone is wondering what the stock pumps look like, here they are.
They are around 42.5mm in diameter( larger than Aeromotive)

Another thing to note is that the stock pumps have a female inlet fitting, whereas all the aftermarket units that I've seen use a male one.

Nice to see the pics I took way back when are still of help today ... If stock pumps are 300 lph each, why upgrade? What are your power goals?

Single Walbros can support 400+ RWHP at 255 LPH each pump (470 RWHP from my own experience). 2x 300LPH should put you close to 1000RWHP.

I was just wandering the same thing (after reading the stock pumps flow at 300 LPH)....I think I will just replace the stock unit....

It seems to me the stock pumps are more than adequate for moderately modified E's. it's the damn filter/regulator side thats in need of improvement. I can't believe they designed this with a non replaceable filter!

Not sure that's true. See my post in the other thread. I remember it twists off, but as far as a replacement part number, I am not sure.

Interesting! I assumed it was a "you can take it apart, but it's gonna break" kinda things. Anyone got one to experiment with?

No it's not going to break .. that's the one part that was pretty strong. You need to push top and bottom together and twist. Mine was cracked on the top (leaking) so I didn't bother too much with it. I am sure some bright person on here can figure out the filter. Looks like an oil filter of sorts.

That depends on the base pressure... I ran out on a 255 at 410rwhp and had to over-current it. That's also on pump gas, E85 requires roughly 28% more fuel so that '1000rwhp' just dipped to 700.

The Aeromotives are not drop in... actually nothing installed into the stock baskets will be drop in. There are plastic retainers in the buckets that are sonic welded in and in order for the old pumps to come out and the new pumps to go in with an attached suction filter, these retainers have to be cut out and reinstalled. The old pumps can come out without cutting them out but there are tabs on the top that need to be broken in order for that to happen and there's no room in the bottom for a different suction filter without disassembly and modding of the base. I didn't drill holes in the bottom of the basket because there's a venturi effect being used to transfer fluid from one end of the tank to the other and I didn't want that the effect transfer (which is quite possible). If Craig is saying it still works, then cool, we just tackled it differently.

Also, the hole in the tank is only big enough for one pump at a time so the two bucket assembly has to be split before removal from the tank.

When I put everything back together, I had a fuel level sender issue so make sure your sender moves freely once everything is back in place.

O.k. Bringing this back.

Do we have confirmation that the stock E55 pumps are indeed 300lph as stated by Lelix? rated at what psi? How did Lelix learn of the rating? Is there a part number on the pump?

And I'm wondering if Craig did indeed run into the same install issue as Mullet? Did he have to break tabs and re-attach?

So many cliffhangers.
