I just bought 2008 E63 AMG with 54k milages on it and I have been an Infiniti owner for the past 10 years with 3 different Infiniti's...

First mode to the car is replace the star ornament on the hood with AMG logo emblem

This car is a beast! It was a fun car until 5 days later the passenger side airmatic fail back to dealership she goes since last Friday and been driving the loaner. It really take them long enough to replace the airmatic... Didn't know about this problem until I come around this forums and apparently this is the most common things that happen.

My question is, what else is usually fail on this car with the mileages I posted? I just want to make sure start saving my money for the repair or something that I can prevented. Also I noticed that it build up so much dirt on the front brakes that every 2 days or so have to clean them with water pressure or it will start squeaking with 75% brake pads left on them according to service guy... What is your recommendation if I would replace the brake with a better one?

All input is really appreciate it. And yes I'm searching the forum around for more answer that might answers above question

E63 front brakes are going to be expensive unfortunately - go with Akebono pads if you can find them

Since its less than 500 miles and 15 days so the dealership cover for it. Is just that its been almost a week driving a loaner car and its not fun

If you do not plan on tracking the car, te composit rotors are a waste of cash. You can find solid equivalents for $150 or less rather than the $650 for the composite/floating design.

mine happend a few weeks ago or so passenger side as well, i went ahead and replaced the drivers side too just so that they are both new, seems like these things are hit and miss, you get guys with 30k 40k miles they go out and you have guys with 150k or so that are still good.

it is a German car it will require TLC. To be honest it is not going to be as trouble free as your infinity.

should not be a multi day fix though. 2 at most if they need to get parts.

I understand the dealer replacements are on backorder from the factory, according to a trusted tech at my local dealer. They have several AirMatic victims marinating in their back lot awaiting new units.

The funny thing is that I was actually debating between BMW M5 or the E63... I love BMW exterior wise but I hate the Idrive and that's what make me get the E63 AMG ...

Welcome to the forum and enjoy your new ride. Extended warranty is a must with this car. As they say, expensive to buy new, expensive to maintain used.

1. 7 speed transmission problems
2. Camshaft and valve lifters problems (there's a class action lawsuit against MB on this)
3. Head gasket problems

Above discussed at length in this forum.

What seem to be the problem with the transmission? I heard about the camshaft and head gasket but I though that's only the 07??

Several problems with the tranny. Just do a search and you will find them.

Engine problems are '07-'09. This is why I gave up on my search for an '09. I couldn't find a single one that didn't have these problems.

There is lot of hype on the engine and transmission problems. Most of these hype are spread by non AMG owners who saw/heard a horror story. Though these issues exist but the percentage of total populations vs. chance of running into these issues are very slim. These AMGs are built to last if taken care of properly. There many folks on the forums with AMGs over 100k miles and still running strong. I have not seen a single brand/model who had NO issues in first 5 years of ownership.

Most of the AMG see 3-6 different owners in first 5 years; hence these car take serious beating. Most of the issues/maintenance is "pushed" on to the next owners, which over times creates bigger issue. Most of the buyers who are looking into buying used AMGs are looking at the bottom line (cheapest car they can get) vs. a clean car (tends to cost more).

I have owned many MB and AMGs over last 17 years as well as other models; the probability of MB breaking down compared to other brands is very similar. But cost of repairing the MB tends to be higher (MB status).

I have a 07 BMW 750li - it is nothing but a problem. I have owned 04 Audi A6 - lot of issues related to engine leaks; I haven't completely fixed all the issues yet. 06 Lexus LX 470 (know for its durability) - spent $3200 fixing/replacing the suspension globes - yikes! and the brake master cylinder seems to be on the way out (another $500-$1k).

In my opinion - if the car is treated well and not abused, it will last you a long time no matter what brand it is.
