Exhaust system thoughts...

Ive been considering putting C63 mufflers on. I currently have kleeman headers, no cats, no resonator, x-pipe, and oem mufflers. The car is nice and quiet with a little growl to it but not too much. I want the car to be louder at times, but not all the time. What do you guys thing about boost actuated exhaust dumps?

kind of like this...

Lol! I used to be a member of those boards when I had my 06 SS.

Personally, I think you are better off with something that is just on or off at your control. Not something that comes on just during boost. Something like the QTP electric cut outs may be a better option.

You can put the large resonator mufflers on in place of stock muflers for more sound and more flow. I second electric cut outs VS boost actuated.

Seems like the noise would be excessive and you might become tired of it in time. Naturally headers of some kind; then secondary cat and resonator removal and enlarging the primary cat inlet; the correct fitting of a properly sized X-pipe and along with reducing the induction air system restrictions produces (to me) a very unique exotic sound.

Can you do Kleemans without deleting the primary cats?

No you can't. The way the headers are designed, if you wanted some type of "primary Catt" you would have to cut the oem ones out them fab something up

The C63 mufflers REALLY wake up the noise in these cars.

My exhaust system is all stock except the resonator delete. The only reason I deleted the resonator was because the car gets a more throaty/deeper sound now. I did not want to touch the secondaries and definitely not the primaries. I've never been a fan of deleting cats on any of my cars, but that's just me. On my previous E39 M5, I added an Xpipe and a loud aftermarket muffler and it was MORE than enough noise and dB without getting annoying or waking up my neighbors.

I have a set of 2012 C63 mufflers in my garage right now waiting to be installed. My setup will be resonator delete straight piped into the the C63 mufflers.

I will post a thread and my impressions when it is done. I am expecting a great deal of noise difference from the stock mufflers.

Since you have the Kleemanns and other deletions, your car will be plenty loud if you put the C63 mufflers on. In my opinion, you have to keep some sort of luxury to these cars, you have to keep that Mercedes class a bit. If not, we could all drop cutouts and be done with it. You want an exotic sound that is loud when you want it to be, and tame otherwise.

Good luck and look for my thread after the C63s go on the car.

I'll definetly keep watch for your video. I have strongly considered the C63 mufflers. My only worry is that it might be too loud on a regular basis. But I might give it a go. My thought behind the boost actuated cutouts is that, the car will remain classy and quiet until the supercharger produces 5 or 10 psi (whichever you want) then It would basically be a wide open exhaust. And right back to classy and quiet once the boost drops. I was only considering this because it would without a doubt be the best of both worlds. alot of aftermarket exhaust companies are doing this already, except instead of having an open dump/ muffler bypass, they are installing the valve in one of the exhaust tips so under normal operating conditions, the exhaust is resticted to one exhaust tip per muffler, and under certain loads/ boost range/ etc, the valve opens and allows the exhaust to flow through both tips on each muffler. this would be the exact same thing... just a spin off i suppose

Have you seen (heard) what Jaguar has been doing with the exhaust on their R & RS cars lately? You can have luxury and sound, too.

You are exactly right - what many of us are looking for - a growl on acceleration - without the annoying "drone" when cruising the highways.
Expensive mistakes until "right" how do you know the second time will be better?
Many more would give it a try were it not so expensive in the redo.
Really tough to know best setup- especially with so many options and valid opinions.
Stock CL550 hiding in the weeds with envy.....waiting.

I loved how my car sounded before (kleemann headers, full catt and resonator delete, and factory mufflers) until I added in the X-pipe. Now the car is Much Much quieter with the X-pipe installed. I was honestly upset and regretting adding the X-pipe for atleast a week after I had it done. Now I dont mind how quiet the car is, but want some loud and agressive back into the mix. If I can get my hands on either some CLS55 mufflers or C63 mufflers, maybe I will be happy with it then.
Berti 00, do you possibly have a video or sound clip of your car, that would basically be the exact same exhaust setup
