113k rebuilt with JE lower comp pistons
Hey hey, so pretty new to mbworld but not new to benz.
Couple weeks back freak accident punched a hole through my main pan, and i took the opp to completely rebuilt my engine the way i would want. I used to work at benz as a tech and now i got my own shop for benz. Anyway, pulled my motor got custom JE pistons made with a comp ratio of about.9:1 which is about half 0.5 less than stock. I'll post more pics as i progress. As of now i got a 180 pulley setup goin on it, with an 82mm tb which is what im waiting on to finish. Just thought id share for anyone who's considering the setup.
P.S sorry about the orientation but i didnt have time to correct it.

Block is stock, other than sleeves. I had to re-sleeve for pistons to fit, bore was 0.002in bigger on the pistons. Great place in san diego that does the silica coating on the cylinder walls as well. Runs pretty expensive though, cost about 1500 to re-sleeve and clean up the block. The pistons ran me about $3400.00 and that including wrist pins and all rings. had to get them custom made. As far as rods i stuck with oe cuz they're split h-beam already and in my exp ive never seen rods fail on our engines.
As far as a short block re-built, depends on how deep you want the rebuild, usually just a hone and new rings is sufficient as far as block wise. but you want all new gaskets, a timing chain wouldnt hurt, new rails, all the little things add up. runs anywhere between 2500 to 4500 depending on depth of rebuilt.

Negative, alusil bore has been re-moved and re-bored to work with the JE's. The reason there is the alusil along the cylinder walls on the stock block is to compensate for the stock piston. JE comes pre-coated and new bore is a silica based off of the nikasil and alusil coating thats meant to break in new rings. Its not carbonized and the structure is broken down to clean away after a couple thousand miles. Ive used the same setup on my buddy's CL55. Just without oversized or lower comp pistons. He's got over 10+k miles of pretty agressive miles on it already. Not my first go. But you're doubts are understandable, i had them once as well.

Looks good brotha, I will state that the stock rods are forged but not as strong as you think. Depending on your intended mod list, they should suffice if you keep her nice and cool.

Yah the porsche shop was located below me, now its a pep-boys. Im on ventura blvd between colfax and tujunga.
And yah chawkins you are most def right, my main thing with the 55's that i try to really push upon anyone whenever they start modding is cooling. No matter how small or large the mod, you gotta keep those IAT's low. Otherwise ive seen pistons crack in half, saw one come apart on the oil ring, another one cylinder wall split from block.

Some of the goodies i had just before my accident. Those headers were a piece of art. I know renntech is pricey but I work with them on the majority of their west coast builds, so i had to rep. Plus the quality is impeccable.

If I was looking to make more power and a decent budget I see the goodies I'd purchase!

$3400 for pistons?!?!? I hope you typed that wrong. The stock compression ratio on these engines isn't 9.5:1 either. Hopefully your piston dish is the same as stock or less to raise compression a little. I got custom diamond pistons, tool steel pins, and the better ring package and also had them hard anodized for less than $2k shipped.

The correct coatings on the pistons can be very expensive if you stay with the Alusil bore. Now, finding a coating that will work for 100,000+ miles or more in the bore will be very difficult if it does not come from Mahle or Kolbenschmidt. Spending that much on J&E coated pistions is foolish. Had to learn that one the hard way.
Spending upwards of $4k, you might as well get the coated ones from Mahle: FERROPRINT or FerroTec. Both are types of iron coating so you can run in the Alusil bore. Remember, you must run dissimiliar materials in the bores or it will eventually freeze or scuff.

Beautiful build. But, why the drop in compression?
