That the red capped tube on top of the supercharger is the oil dipstick tube. That means we can use the Topsider to change our oil without having to go under the car! Sweet! I'm going to change it this weekend. Mobil One 5W-30. Isn't MB engineering great!

You have a W211 E55? Change your signature - it says "E55 on order". Thanks.

Why waste money if the car is under warranty? It doubt you will realize any performance gains with that oil viscosity.

Norb, after all that previous discussion you are now going to do a "break-in oil change?":p

break in oil? No 5W-30 is the oil I use on all my cars. That weight oil, I read, has the least amount of additives, almost a pure oil, and its rated for the temperature swings we have in Houston.

Dr. Chill,

Where's the 442 in your sig? I vote for the 442 back.

Upgrades are for "Show" or "Go" and 5-30 oil is neither!

It's for Show! Caliper paint eliminates the Rust on a cast iron caliper used on W210. Rusted calipers look horrible especially when using an open wheel design other than a OEM Monoblock II. No need to use Caliper Paint on a W211 unless you want a custom look because the calipers are already coated or laminated.

By the way who has Green Calipers? Anyone on these board?

Overkill? Maybe, but easy and cheap to do.

why would you want to change your own oil?

And there is a reason MB engineered the oil filter to be on top of the engine. Do you think that is a coincidence?

This debate if you will, is not about changing your own oil or where to sick the topsider. It is about whether you need to waste you time, money and effort while the car is under warranty and using a preferred viscosity of oil.

I am trying to find a pic of the W211 E55 engine. Does the supercharger uses the same engine oil from the block? I thought that the blower was a self contained unit with a separate oil system or some permanent type of lubrication or something?

I don't believe there is an oil drain plug.
Most MBs don't have an oil drain anymore. We "suck" all of the oil out from the top.

Have you ever changed your oil using a topsider? Its easily a 15 minute job, without getting dirty. I already have all the tools from my previous MB so its really no big deal. What can it hurt? It will not void the warranty if I change the oil out early, will it?

It probably will take less time than painting the calipers or waxing my car.

hey guys....i change my oil between the MB 10000 service intervals at 5000 miles. all my MB's have drain plugs...i know the guys at the dealerships like the topsider method because they don't have to remove any of the bottom plastic panels. personally i like draining from the bottom...i figure anything that might not be normally sucked out from the topsider will drain out the bottom because of gravity..........

one question....why are you using such a light weight oil? i'm not familiar with the kompressor motors requirements but i would think a heavier weight oil might be better suited for your car and for where you live.....warmer in houston.

30 weight oil is approved for over 86 degree weather just like the 40, 50 and 60 weight oil. But to get that wide of a rating, they are putting additives in the oils, so I'm sticking to the MB approved weight of 5W-30 Mobil One. Although, I might use the 0W-40 when and if I find it locally.
