Unhappy What size is our fuel feed line

Does anyone know what size our feed line is?

Let me know so I can get the correct sizing for the fuel filter housing inlet/outlet.

That would be nice but the ID of the stock lines going into the the fuel rail are 6MM. Some parts of the fuel lines and filter, neck down to 5.5mm. Very , very small for even 550 hp.

I had to change my whole system out to 8an lines and use one intank pump that feeds duel bosh 44 pumps, plus installed a fuel surge tank. If you hook up a fuel PSI gauge and check psi over 4500 RPM at WOT.

My Cl55 pump set up is different than the E class but fuel raisl are the same. I used a 8an main fuel line to feed one 6an line for each rail.

Agreed. If your going thru the hassle of doing the entire fuel system it would be crazy not to do a return style system.

Great idea on a return system but I suspect few will spend money on a return system. Everyone always talk a good game... suggesting this, wanting that.... but in the end very few actually are willing to pay for it (an example is everyone wanting to have their paint corrected by a pro detailer....until they realize it costs +1k and 2 to 3 days). Personally, I am all for just finding a replacement fuel filter in the oem location or a kit that puts the filter inline-so easier to replace. I think this is something that the masses want and can afford.

Regardless, Chawkins has already provided a lot valuable info!!!

keep an eye on the 044 pumps. this was used for a long time in the pcar world then the issue of a failing pump popped up and because theres 2 pumps you don't notice it for a while and your slowly starving your engine. the fix was moving to a single large pump like a magna fuel 650 or a weldon 2345

Thanks for the info guys, not looking to redo the fuel system, just get rid of the oem filter and place an aftermarket one inline. I bought an inline unit yesterday, a Russell fuel filter from summit racing. It is a universal filter good for regular gas, alcohol, e85 and is 3 inches long, 1.25 inches in diameter. It comes with a stainless 40 Micro mesh element , and the best part is it was only $27.00

I plan to throw it in next week. Just need to decide where to put it for easy servicability.

How about in the engine bay?

Also, have you try to put the sending unit together yet? I broke mine taking it apart, so I assume it's not possible.

What broke David? I just twisted the top back on, but will verify it is locked in place tonight before I attempt my in tank unit.

That is what I was thinking of doing in the engine bay, there is plenty of place for this little critter.

Np sir. I plan to do the following:

Before and after fuel pressure test at the fuel rail
Removal steps of the sender unit
Removal steps of the fuel filter
Reinstall steps of the sender unit
Install of the new engine bay fuel filter assembly

I'd imagine any quality unit that was of the correct size would be fine, no?

Nice, very nice Craig!!

You are going to run this on the output of the left side fuel sender, correct? At what location?

EDIT: Also, with the OEM internal fuel filter removed, yes?

The fuel is pre filtered before the sender by those sacks that are attached to the bottom of each fuel pump.

You are correct Pare, I am removing the oem filter and placing this Russell filter in the engine bay.

Once the fuel leaves the sender unit, it is on its way to the engine. I don't think it matters where it is filtered as long as it is done before it hits our fuel rails.

I anticipate fuel pressure to rise though since the stock filter will be so clogged full of dirt.
