You could plastidip the wheels another color if you don't like the chrome, they make pearliser and a few other options you could check it out a metallic and a glossifire. Check it out on YouTube

You have to like what color you make the wheels, I know you're looking for advice, but some people like somethings and others don't, while you have to like it, live with it, and love it!

Definitely do the Plasti Dip. Painting them will ruin the sell ability of the rims should you choose to do so. Made that mistake myself. Got a set of SL rims, put them on the car and painted factory ones gunmetal. Then tried to sell car and the dealer wanted the original ones, not the sl. Cost me a little and couldn't make it up on the sale of the original ones.

Plasti dip will allow you to peel it off. Try the gunmetal color. That might look the best.

Just my .02

Been there, done that. Please refrain, it doesn't look good, I still have a few cans of the plasti-dip laying around, not even the emblems held up, probably I did something wrong (although, I followed instructions all the way), but, I didn't like how flimsy it looks and how delicate it is.

Interesting, i sprayed my emblems last year.. they have been through everything.. pressure washers.. my handing washing.. they are still perfect. if its not holding up you arent apply enough coats. I was going to spray my wheels but since painting my calipers.. i think my wheels look good how they are, they go well with my caliper color.

I did my all my exterior chrome, window trim, emblems, etc... Only the front grille and the one side of the window trim has held up, it's probably me doing it wrong.

What would you say is the most crucial part of preparing a surface for PD?

Clean surface. i washed and then used rubbing alcohol to clean the emblems to. Rubbing alcohol might be overkill. But making sure the surface area is clean is paramount.

I will do just that, my emblems show grime, and perhaps gently using a soft toothbrush with rubbing alcohol will clean them properly...

Very nice. My wheels are painted flat black, and I think it makes it look a little more edgy without being too noticeable.

IPA= Rubbing alcohol and distilled water (12% ra and 88%dw) this should give you a clean surface to work from. Higher percentages of RA has shown to damage clear coat on vehicles. Usually its in a spray bottle so gets on other areas. I wipe down vehicles all the time with this mixture, to get all oils and other products off the vehicle before final sealants. You can also wash the areas too with normal dish wash liquid. Follow up with IPA. This will strip the vehicle of all waxes or sealants too just as a warning. Coatings should not be affected if you have one of those on the car. '

Several coats of PD should be used also. To a point, thicker the PD the harder it is to come off.

Just a .02 opinion
