E63 Painted Airbox---Suggestions Wanted for logo please
My second thread, and sorry if this has been covered to death. I couldn't find what I was looking for so I thought why not. I loved the Copper AMG calipers some of the members had on their cars and the Factory ones too. Since my 63 is black, I thought I would do it. Came out perfect with logos and all. Then seeing some of the 55 members with worked up air boxes and other engine pieces, I starting thinking of how to dress up mine. I liked the red, and yellow but with a black car, tan interior, and copper calipers, I thought copper for the air box would be best. Here are the pics of it. NOW, my thought was too get the same vinyl lettering to go on the logos then clear over them to prevent shrinking or peeling. Issue is the Vinyl guy can't get the font right for the size. Three times now something is off. He doesn't want to do them anyhow due to the textured covers. They stick with a little pressure and with cc they would be great.
MY question is what do YOU think would be the best route to go. Paint them by hand with the high temp enamel then clear or wait and get another Vinyl guy to make them right. Black would be the color of choice, unless a unique suggestion is presented. Other than this, and maybe figuring out a Air Tube mod, (still cannot figure what some are doing, ?a SL part) and TTM scoops in black thats all I want to do. Thanks for the help and Definitely enjoying this forum.

No actually sprayed the HT Enamel out of the can into the cap. then used a small brush and did like three coats. Yes I did mess up a little, and you can see if you blow it up a little the edges are not totally perfect. That part was hard even wit a small brush. The spots where I got carried away, I used a screwdriver with a microfiber dipped in Mineral Spirits to wipe the residue off. Since the original coats had several days and a trip to dry, the little bit of MS did not affect it. I then cc over all of it again.
Yes really like it, still keeps the engine bay perfectly clean but does change the look. I want to replace or clean (not sure how to do) the AMG signature badge sometime.

Its actually Burnt Copper VHT High Temp Engine Enamel. Any local store will have it. The air boxes I only covered the sides and top, where the front piece the whole part was covered. I then used VHT HT Engine Clear to coat over top to protect the paint.
I realize the pic kinda shows it so orangy. Its not, but brighter than the copper calipers that were painted with the same exact can and clear coated the same. When a shadow, like a wheel, is put over the color it darkens up quite a bit.
The center star and grille popped out kinda easy, I was actually lucky to catch it when it did. I wasn't even trying to take it out and wondering how to. The center of the star you have to push pull to pop the screen off. Then just a matter of painting the screen and reattaching. ALL the posts that hold the star on the panel were broken so I placed the star and screen in place and from the bottom I squirted Gorilla Gel Glue into the holes. Held in place till dry and tested with a 2 hour drive. Held up just fine no issues. The pieces even fooled a Merc dealer the other day when I had the tranny service. The service writer said the tech asked what options the car had to have the special calipers and engine panels. Still didn't believe I painted them myself.

I HAVE to caveat this. I have always put Akebono Ceramic pads on my mercs. First thing I usually do in order to reduce brake dust. After getting this vehicle and seeing the Carbon Ceramic's calipers done in this fashion, I loved it. However, I knew we didn't or wouldn't have the carbon discs ever, so made the vinyl stickers to reflect just the Ceramic that the changeover pads would be. Now I feel a Little stupid, because Ceramics are not made or recommended for our cars. Keep this is mind when responding please. It looks great and done to perfection, so just keeping it for the time being. Here are the pics.

I do not totally disagree with this thought. However, as I explained above, if I removed just the ceramic part, then it would look bad, If I removed the whole thing it would cause more problems than just an easy fix. They are clear coated over with the rest of the caliper. Not just stuck on. Am in the delima, but also 99% of the world, even the techs are clueless so how big a deal is it really.
