It seems the chances are high that the insurance company will deem my car a total loss after my accident a couple of weeks ago. The preliminary estimate came in a bit over $17k while the body shop says the cost will be higher once they tear it down further. My car is an 07 flint gray with 73k miles and was in pristine condition prior to the accident. All original paint, every option with the exception of performance package and pano roof. It has an EC tune, CF lip, 19"CLS wheels with brand new Michelin PSS. Just had both front struts replaced with Arnots and recently serviced. I know these cars range from low 20's to mid 30's. My question is what should I expect the insurance to pay for it if it's totaled and should they be paying for the recent repairs/service? Also, would it make sense for me to buy it back if I can for under $10k? The last time I had a car totaled was years ago when my car was stolen and stripped. Any input would be appreciated.

My friend was paid KBB retail "fair" value when her car was totaled but that was about 7 years ago.
Kelly retail blue book value is about $27k which I would not accept even though that's what they're going for. I bought the car a year ago for $32k + tax/lic, and put quite a bit of $$ in to it. It took me about 6 months to find the car in the color I wanted and more importantly to find a car that was all original. During my search I found cars with comparable miles for up to $7k less but they were nowhere near as clean as the mine, that's why I paid $7k more. We'll see what I end up getting but I will definitely put up a fight if I'm offered those numbers.

I just went through this. I had an 2008 E63 with 57K miles. Pristine condition before the accident. I was paid out $44.5K which included tax and license.
If its 17K in body damage I would not take the salvage from the insurance for more than $5K.

What's a m156 engine going for these days? $10-15k running I thought.
I would say for $10k its worth buying back to part out, I would think. Eng, trans, seats, 63 brakes, cluster, etc all go for big $$$

I went thru this with a MINT 2003 C32 AMG I bought. I searched long time for a Tectite Gray w/ Navi & Bi-Xenon. The car did not even have a scratch or nothing. Service history was all there very detailed. Originally Posted by vcci

I went back and forth with insurance. They kept finding ones that were far from mint, let alone in Tectite Gray. It took weeks and we met in the middle but I still lost out bought car for $14k and not even 6 mos later had to bicker to get $10k.
Good luck I know how it is losing a car that was just the way you wanted.

You're not going to get what it's worth on the private market. Most insurance companies don't pay replacement cost, they pay something closer along the lines to "negotiable" value if you were buying a replacement and got a good deal. Options and (good to great) condition mean virtually nothing, and 72k is not really low mileage, and mileage and year are the biggest difference between a $20k and $40k valuation on an E63.
For reference, I had a very nice 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S with 72k miles that was totaled last fall. Porsche only brought 600 of these cars into the US; it had a $120k sticker, 22" aftermarket wheels, new tires, a $5k sound system, Akrapovic exhaust, etc.
None of this mattered. It was valued at $30k at the end of the day, in spite of any car in its condition transacting between $35-40k.
tl;dr our 'special' cars really aren't that special at the end of the day with insurance companies.
One last note: E63s are dropping fast. I am seeing many in the $20s now.

you will get close to retail for same year / make / model and mileage car.
if you can furnish them with receipts of tires etc they will add a prorated amount to the value of the car.

Same color and wheels are yours I was missing p30 and command..

Print you option list from the VIN and give it to them.
You car is an easy fix...I would buy it back fix it and just enjoy it for being a nice car... My car had more damage..

same options as yours +...color..CLS wheels..i had some mods but they paid for the car.I did not want to bring the mods I did before they said that will lower the value of the car. I was very happy with 38k for a car that had 72k but my car was a 10 of 10 never had paint work...The link has pic and she looks blue but was flint gray.. on the mirror shot you see the gray

insurance started off with just under $34k including tax/lic. I am trying to get them to pay a little more plus a few expenses i recently put in to the car. They are offering the car back to me for $8500. I'm leaning towards buying it back. I don't see why i wouldn't get $12k for it, thought?
If that was the damage to my car I would have bought it back.
You do not have any real damage. I had chassis damage.
Get them for the tow charges..and rental. They also might pay for out of work time.
If you were on the East Coast and was not taking that car back I would have ask you to get it for me.. That is an easy fix....
I would take it fix it and drop a SC on it and still have extra cash...

Whether you buy it back or not.. or get any more money through negotiations..
Fact is, you can easily get into another 07 or 08 for that amount of money. I'm happy for you that you weren't hurt and this process didn't drag you through he11 and back.. good luck with whatever you do next!

No brainer if there's no chassis/motor damage.
Buy it back and call Weistec.

A month ago my brother total his 2008 328i with under 50K miles and full loaded . KBB private was about $21,000 and state Farm pay him little over $17K. They told him that how much it would cost to replace and buy the same car with same miles and options in the area. They show him 3 car and they pay him the highest price out of the 3 and that was little over $17K. So if you have 3 car in your area are that people are selling for $20K, They going to pay you how much it going to cost to replace you with the same car. Btw they don't give ***** for your add on and mod unless it recently and you have receipt to show for it. He got over 5K in mod in his car and they told him to remove it and reuse it. oh yeah they raised his prem about $60/m.
so if they giving you retail take it!

Never hurts to ask for more, you have a claim on your record might as well squeeze al you reasonably can out of it.
after a few rounds of negotiations we settled on $36,400 including tax/lic. I can't complain but now its time to find a new ride.
Are you still going to buy it back ? how much they would ask to buy back ?

Yea I'm buying it back. Not sure exactly for how much yet but definitely under 10k. I've gotten a few offers but haven't decided yet what to do.Originally Posted by CharlyE500
