Poll: Who has the S/C Clutch Engage Chirp?

Do you have it or not? If you do or don't - how many miles? Has anything been done about it or did the dealer give you the "that's how its supposed to be" response?

It started off as a muted chirp and as the belt has gotten more and more worn it has become painful.

Chirp started around 3000 miles . Car now has 10,000 miles with no change in chirp. The chirp is loud enough to be intrusive and is especilaly irritating when you have passengers. Dealer says it is the clutch on the supercharger causing the chirp and there is no way to fix it. Very dissapointing on an $85,000 vechile.

5,000 miles, my dealer is going to replace the pulleys and belts in an effort to correct the problem. If they cannot find a fix I will take a more aggressive stance.....this is not what I expect from and $85k.

I have about 5,800 miles and it just started within the last 400 miles... I'll see what the dealer says.

Mine started around 2000 miles and hasn't gotten worse over the last 2000 miles. It's a little annoying, but I wouldn't want to have the car in service a few days while they try to correct a problem that will likely recur in a short time. It's an inherent problem with how the electronic clutch was designed and poses no danger. Now if it was robbing performance, however, I'd have the car at the dealer ASAP.

I had that chirp for ever, I am so used to it that I don't even care, to waste time taking it to the dealer so they can give you a loaner, then drive for 1 or 2 weeks with that loaner is NOT worth it. ( Talking from experience) Even the alternator of my car went bad and it took them 2 weeks to find one, they didn't have one in Germany and the US. I was lucky enough to have them find me one in Canada. I'm changing all 4 tires this week after 22,000 miles.

Mark me down for another one that has the chirp. I have a 2003 E55 and it started about 4500 miles. I'll be watching to see if they come up with a fix.

If you hear those old cars with the fan belt slipping everytime they try to accelerate or crank the engine, that's what it sounds but it only does it once and when I had my E55, I experienced it at the 1-2 shift. My car had 7,000 miles before I got rid of it.

Somewhat like that but it's a higher pitch and of a short interval.

Thanks Arnee - I guess I'll have to wait and see. There is a high pitched whining type noise when I start her up and it's cold out, it does go away though.
