Black Grill Drama

So I want a black grill on the e55....

In my opinion no matter how well you prep the oem grill and respray you always are going to have chipping issues down the road. I purchased a grill off of ebay that i thought was molded black plastic, but it was also just the chrome grill painted, and the paint is already flaking off.

I have searched hi and low and I cant find a black grill the is actually molded black plastic vs just a respray. Has anyone ever saw one? I am more interested in glossy vs matte. Any leads would be greatly appreciated.

You can try plastidip but I wasn't too impressed with the finish. I have some at the house if you want to try it out

I get mine professional painted and touch up when it chips...I mean just like the car .its going to chip here and there. plastidip finish on the grill is ghetto if you ask me.

Plastidip or vinyl is the way to do it.

Another option is vinyl wrapping it but it will take more time and patience. I have some cf vinyl at the house too lol

Express body parts (866)981-4929 on Ebay had the gloss black e55 grill before. Looks like now they only have the w211 e63 right now but if you call them to find out when its back in stock. Good luck!

The express body parts is one that I purchased. The fit was fine, but the paint was extremely soft. I think I may give vinyl a try. Im always up for a project.

Paint your factory grille. Plasti dip is a pain to remove.

Bought a gloss black grill two months ago and its perfect. The slats are spaced a little wider so it looks even better. Its perfect and at 100.00 was a no brainer.

From eBay? I've wanted a grill that had one less slat in it and gloss black would be perfect.

I had one of the pre-facelift eBay grilles and it was solid black. Now I have one (E63 front end) that has one less row of slats. Haven't noticed any paint chipping away. It does look much better than the OEM grandpa grille.

If you want glossy then Plastidip may not be the way to go because all the ones I've seen coated that way come out looking more matte. I had a body shop paint mine and it lasted for years.
