More engine braking, less of the slow down pedal. (I'm at 124K). I'll look at my brake counter numbers next time I hook up SDS.

The whole car makes me nervous. Maybe I am . I do love it though. It's like the lottery...you may, you may not and if you do you don't know how much or when.

I just saw the list of fixes performed by me and the first owner of the car. Which was done meticulously @ MB… I noticed something about SBC bracket, and also the service rep at MB dealer told me there was pink paint on the SBC plug. That means something was repaired or replaced. Not sure what they means. Anyone care to shed some light on this?

I had them run my vin and they said all the corrections and updates have been performed and your car is perfect. Whatever that means.

the replacement of the part isn't really what takes a long time its the actual activation, bleeding, testing the new unit that takes so long.

also its not really dependent on mileage its the number of stops. i have 116k with the original and no software update. still have 10 months of warranty though.

despite random annoying issues that you will eventually have to deal, i don't know any e55 owner not in love with their car. 1 of few cars that comes standard with unlimited smiles ..can't beat that

Had my fronts go on that too, but it's not too bad to work on. With STAR I got that down to about 40 minutes per front shock.

You know what would have been great on MBs part when designing this car? A dash message like with almost everything else that says"SBC Service Due, Visit Workshop" BEFORE about, oh, say a decent chunk before the SBC says "F U". That just might have been smart.

Maybe you can answer me...I talked with my service guy at RBM Atlanta and he stated at my next service they will be working on the SBC unit (along with many other things). He had mentioned the hydraulic reservoir and fluid. I would have to call back and verify. I have never had any brake messages or SBC issues.

What's the question? Are you asking why they're doing it despite no warning message?

116K that sounds a lot better. i guess checking the brake activations counter is good way to find out if the previous owner lied about "All highway miles"

yea its strange this isn't a built-in system message.. would also make things a lot easier if i could check the number of activations through the dash, even if through a hidden menu or something ...sure would be a lot easier than through SDS...

he probably just means you will do a b service and they will bleed the brakes on the sbc system. make sure they check the service life as part of the service. most don't check it.

I got the dreaded SBC light last week and took the car in to the dealer and waiting to get the phone call from the SA. Where did you guys find the SBC pump? I haven't checked the dealer for their price but I can't find it online (A0054318112). Always helps to have some price leverage. Thanks in advance!

The pricing looks to be about right. I think this might be it...

The part on eBay looks legit as well.

You can get an exchange unit from Bosch for about half the price of a new unit from MB.

While that's true, what's the turn around time? Especially if I have to send it to the UK to get the work done.

I would think you pay core charge till you send yours and they refund. Most Companies do business like that.

I have the White BRAKE Message. I put it on DAS and I exceeded my Brake Count, So I'm going to just reset my Count too Zero and Re-Activate the SBC Pump. but brakes work fine without it.

The dealer wants $2122 to replace the SBC pump. Knowing roughly what the range of costs for the part are online, it seems to me their price is on the high side. Curious what range of prices others here have had to pay for this repair?

The pump has the 10 warranty on it, unlimited mileage. The pump comes with the new pressure resv. Pump/resv together is about $750~. And even though its one unit like that if you get message and its the pressure resv/accumulator then its on you. Thanks MB!!

The resv can be bought sep and is about $400~. If you if get the message for the resv pressure then whole replacement is really the better option but I rolled the dice and am doing the resv only.
