Valve cover Gasket changed...Now check engine.

Had the valve cover gaskets changed do to an oil leak. Now the car's check engine light is on and last night after 20-30 minutes of driving the RED check gas cap light came on...Only while driving, would turn off when stopped. (the refill fuel light was also blinking)

Went for a drive in the buildings parking lot today, still check engine but the RED check gas cap did not turn on.

What could be causing this? Any help would be appreciated!

It sounds like a vacuum leak. Go back into your engine bay and double check to make sure there were not any hoses left unplugged.

you most likely have not pushed the vacuum line that is an aluminum piece that plugs under behind the supercharger... People forget to do so or just dont push it all the way back in. Happend to me and i put it back in and its fine. Its a tight spot so you might have to use a flash light and try to get it in there. That's your problem most likely

yup what Berti said. Its the hardline on the driver side thats bolted down by the valve cover bolt closet to the firewall. you need to push it back into the grommet that is in the supercharger just underneath the TB.

It's hard to see. Use a hand mirror to locate it

If it's not the line, the installer could have pinched a valve cover gasket. Are you seeing any oil drips or smelling burning oil on the headers?

It has a bracket that mounts to one of the bolts on the back of the drivers side valve cover.

No oil drips. No burning smells. Upon inspection everything seems to be connected properly except for the screws on the plastic engine cover thats connected to the superchargers air intake. The one on the drivers side are badly screwed in and you can hear air blowing on that side, cant feel it just hear it. Also on the passenger side there seems to be a pink insulation material there and the drivers side none.

Those are your air filter lids. Shouldn't really be causing your issue, but I'd tighten it down correctly anyways.

I changed out my valve cover gaskets due to a leak on the passenger side not too long ago, and the same thing happened to me, check engine light, gas cap warning, flashing fuel light. It would come and go. I checked it with the code reader and it came up as a gross vacuum leak. I talked to my indy mech, and he just told me to buy a new gas cap. Replaced it and about a week later I had no problems and the light went away. Haven't had any issues in about a month and a half or so. I know it seems a little far fetched, but just giving advice from personal experience.

That's not good. Did you get an aftermarket cheapo brand air filter? Are they set into the air cleaner correctly? Def should NOT be like that GAP. Mine are shut tight.

Im going to my indy on thursday to have a look, the vacuum being disconnected seems like the most plausible answer. They did the job and now they will pay to have it corrected.

I will make sure to take a look at the air filters as I do not know which quality the last owner used.

I will update with the cause and solution once I have it.

Thank you all very much for your replies, This forum is boss.

Sooooo, went to the indy today.

It was the aluminum piece that fits into the grommet that was not properly squeezed in. They fixed the issue....and then on my way home, the goddamn check engine light came back on! Again, a vacuum sound coming from drivers side.

Dint cost me a thing, but this is getting annoying...

Next week i'm having my new 010 Bosch pump installed and they will remediate the issue once again. FML.

As suggested by shardul I went to check if connection was bad near the firewall, everything seemed legit, found one small rubber hose disconnected so I squeezed that back in. Turned the engine on, the check engine still there and instead of a vacuum sound it has now been replaced by a clicking sound that seems to be coming from the SP...Im lost...A mega ride in my area tomorrow. guess I will be missing out...

I just had my C32 valve covers replaced - yesterday. And today, I too experienced the gas cap flashing red warning. Also, my idle is up and down in cycles. I need to go look as it sounds like the same thing.

Yes, sure enough it was a vacuum hose that was badly reconnected after the job was done.

Anyone have a picture (if possible)? I looked and can't see anything that if off. Is it on the firewall side of the driver?

I did notice the airbox covers not all tightened down.

This seems pretty common, but no pics showing where this is? Mine been giving me issues since the day the valve cover gasket was changed a year ago. Took it to an indy and they gave me a list of possible issues, and it was costly.

I've stopped driving the car, it's been about a year, so I'd really like to get this resolved. Any pics would greatly help...

Are they really that much of a pain in the *** to do? I have to do mine. What gasket do you recommend? Stock or aftermarket?

They are not difficult, just remembering to plug every hose back in, is the issue. But on mine I had to reseal both sides TWICE, broke a bolt on the right side and the left side was seeping fluid. I forgot both the air intake hose and the evap hose TWICE. Just doing the work diligently and remembering what you took apart is the hard part.
