Installed Sirius in the E55...it's free...but is that a good thing?
Ok so I've been wanted to install Sirius in my E55 and decided to go ahead and do it. So I purchase the SDAR off of Ebay and do the install (with the help of the forum/Thanks) and drive to the dealer to have them program the SDAR into the fiber ring. The dealer then tells me I'll have to call Sirius when I pull out of the garage to activate the service, sounds fine to me. So I pull out of the garage and BOOM, I'm hearing tunes.....yes more then the preview channel. But the problem is I'm only getting some of the channels, but most of the ones I listen to. So I'm thinking at this point the SDAR unit I purchased must have had a lifetime subscription. I guess I'll see how long the limited service last. I have 3 other radios with Sirius, I'm not really sure how the service transfers...

that is an awesome win - i bought my wagon a 1.5+ years ago and same the previous owner must have had a lifetime subscription as well because it still ceases to go away - which is really convenient -

I was reading a thread about Sirius on slickdeals and someone there mentioned that if you take the radio out before your subscription expires and stick it a drawer at home for a few months, it never gets the kill signal and hence it's still good. Maybe that's what happened instead of a lifetime subscription. The other thing they talk about is that you can get 5 months for $20 or 6 months for $25 if you threaten to cancel, but you have to hold out as the first two deals they offer you aren't as good, 5 months for $20 is their 3rd and final deal. Or they make it really hard to cancel so maybe the previous owner is still paying for it, but hasn't noticed it on his bill.

Lifetime subscriptions were popular back then.

I currently have Sirius on my car. I had it in my Lexus before I sold it. I called and switched it over to the E55. The Lexus unit still worked for months till I sold the car, don't know if it is still working.

I have the lifetime on my E55. It was a whopping $299 when I bought it. Last time I checked it was something like $699 now. (From memory, so might not be exact)

I always kicked myself for not locking down on lifetime years ago (2004) but it's only good for THAT car... And how many of us keep a car for more than a few years... Love Sirius ... I've had it for 10 years and as much as iTunes Radio and pandora etc are great, it's still not an app in my car like some vehicles so it's not super convenient to change stations on the iphone
