Weistec crank pulley and clutched UPD SC pulley shredding belts

My car is shredding belts and as far as I can tell both my weistec modular crank pulley and eurocharged clutched sc pulley were installed correctly. They are spinning true and with no run out. I'm running a k080545hd gates belt which I think is a tad tight so gonna try the k080550hd.

After doing research it seems like this may be common with the modular bolted ring crank pullies. Awesome.

Weistec seemed to have represented a ton of testing on this pulley but I would expect in their systems with fixed pulley setups. Could it be that it's never been tested on a cluthched setup with a harsh engagement? Could the engagement make the bolted ring flex and throw/ shred the belt?

Pure speculation at this point, I know. My ask: is anyone on the board running a bolted style weistec crank pulley with a clutched style sc pulley successfully?

I've spent a ton of money getting my car back on the road and thought that buying the highest quality piece available (read most expensive) I wasn't cutting corners.. Running out of patience.

For reference I'm running a 180crankpulley/84mm clutched SC pulley. Tensioner is working and I have a belt wrap kit. Some play in both idler pullies they move slightly front to back but wrap kit bolted on tight as possible.

What size would you recommend based on this setup?

I'm running a Weistec crank pulley (170mm) with the Weistec charger. I've shredded 3 belts over about 3,000 kms of driving. Trying to get to the bottom of this. There is some run-out evident on the crank pulley at idle. It settles once the revs pick up. Weistec have told me to expect some run-out and have advised that the run-out evident in video clips I've sent them appears to be in order. I'm now troubled by the fact that your pulley has no run-out at all.

Pretty concerning that yours is doing it as well even on a fixed pulley setup with no clutch engagement. I want to know if anyone on the board is running this pulley successfully with out shredding belts.

Well the 550 belt didn't work.

Spent the morning swapping it.- at idle with no load its spinning true with no run out on any pullies or wobble. Two wot passes and stresses the belt again to ****.

Something is happening under load wether it's the crank pulley moving or something else. Don't know what it is but this sucks.

How about this idea. Take it to a dyno shop, run it on dyno with hood open and see what is actually happening.

Shredded belt also

Weistec 3.0l Supercharger, Stock 170mm crank pulley and 56mm sc pulley. Just ran car in for 2000miles and belt shredded! Have now fitted Heavy duty K080560 belt so will see if that lasts any longer. Tensioner seems to be working ok but crank pulley does seem to be slightly out although my tuning guys said it was normal. Will update in a few thousand miles time.

The heavy duty belts won't last any longer. I have shredded about 8 belts and my first serpentine belt yesterday. I have a brand new crank pulley from Shardul that I pray fixes it. I haven't a clue what causes it replaced all bearings and crank is running true. New tensioner too.

Shirt shift and don't go past 70% throttle. I haven't done a WOT in 2 months.

Then we have a problem
Maybe Weistec can shed some light on what could be causing the issues??
My tuning company are going to change crank pulley next week so same boat as you......let's hope it doesn't sink!

I bought the car for WOT as I have to travel through Germany so no point in 70%. Hopefully someone can explain the problem so I can get back to enjoying the power

Trust me...I didnt buy a E55 to go strolling through the woods. I bought it to have fun and to drive. I've tred every belt setup I can and no fix. I had Shardul make a 180MM pulley for me that looks much better than the one I have on now. I have stock S/C pulley and a belt wrap kit.

Let me know how you get on with the pulley as I'm not sure the stock 170mm is that good a set up.
It's 1am here so sleep time. Happy Thanksgiving guys...

You're over spinning the hell out of the supercharger.

This is disappointing the crank pulley appears to be a quality piece and I really thought I was buying the best part available. To now have to replace it while the motor is back in the car and re-pin an asp welded style just to trouble shoot it. I suppose I'm gonna have to just eat the $1200 of the pulley cost+ labor for post production customer r&d.

Why? Because you want to overspin the supercharger I suppose. I give up...do tell.

I've got a 180 welded ASP I'll let you borrow to help diagnose if that's a help..
I'd be really surprised if there was something structurally wrong with your Weistec pulley. Are you sure all the pulleys are in alignment?

Several years ago, I was at a dyno watching other cars get dynoed. One car was on the dyno but not for dynoing but for diagnosing why the sc belt kept shredding. With the hood opened, the car was put thru the paces and the car owner finally found out why. He had gone thru countless belts in a span of a month and the owner was greatly relieved to have finally found the culprit. It might be a pain to put the car on the rollers but in the end it might be the most useful way for you to find out the cause of the problem vs all this guessing. Just my two cents. I wish you luck. Oh the culprit for that owner was the tensioner pulley at WOT - only at WOT - was moving and allowed the belt to get misaligned and shredded.

We would like to first say happy holidays to all.

There are many variables on your car that can cause belt issues. As said above, you mention some play in the idler pulleys although they are properly tightened. This comes from the actual bearing itself having tolerance for high RPM's. This in itself can also be a problem and this is why many performance pulley manufacturers (including us) run double bearing idlers. This will eliminate any play or flex in the pulley while still being able to run a proper tolerance bearing. Below is a picture of the complete pulley system for our M156 system. All the high load idler pulleys are running double bearings.

We have sold many many crank pulleys for the M113K since our official release and those who have issues typically have multiple variables in the belt system that can be causing this issue. The design concept of the M113K crank pulley system was taken from our M156 pulley system which has been running great for years now. We never test or R&D on customers parts.

With this being said, we are in contact with your re-seller, and we will properly handle this so you don't end up with a $1,200 loss. Thank you.

Thanks for responding Steve. I posted this thread to hear from other members who have first hand experience with the pulley. Respecting that their setups will vary from mine but in hopes of ruling out the pulley as the cause. The last thing I want to do is pull it off the car.

The tensioner is a possibility and as you said I am running an oem tensioner. I'm happy to offline the financial discussion of what happens if this doesn't work out for my setup but really I just think we all just want to stop shredding belts and worry about less frustrating things like wearing out tires.
