Tesla Model S'es are as common as Honda Civics around here in Silicon Valley. That said, the P85D is a beast but for me, limited range kills the realistic usability of the car. As for being green, I bike to work or just work from home - tough to beat that. =D

They are everywhere down here in Los Angeles as well. Same as you, it's the range that does it in for me. I road trip to the Bay area at least twice a month and it's quite humorous to see these Tesla drivers anywhere north of Bakersfield. They slow waaaay down no doubt watching that range meter. I think Musk is working on getting those quick swap stations operational though.

I have few objections not to make the switch once that is sorted.

My next door neighbor just took delivery of a P85D - black/black/black. Got rid of his TT CLS63

Nice car.

My boss has a P85+. Same color combo.

I think the car looks much less appealing in any other color.

yes, you can get a really nice BMC road bike for $8k and still save tons of money in comparison

The fuel savings is a tough sell at that price point. 100k to 125k car - Get approx the same power for about... 20k less. You never pay for gas, but you pay an electric bill which is arguably not a huge net increase in home-electric costs.

Its a great engineering feat. When the range increases, that will seal the deal for IC engined cars - but not for the die hard petrol heads like me. The true believers will be revealed, as most "it looks pretty" car people will make the swap - because they don't have petrol running in their veins.

A guy brought one to a track day we had a while back. Made it through two laps of the second session and that was all she wrote. Once they get the range issue worked out I bet we see a lot more

Here's the question I keep asking and have not as yet had an definitive answer: Somewhere on the other end of the electric charging cable carbon is being emitted (assuming a non nuke, non hydro, non solar source of electricity), so does a high efficiency internal combustion engine or electric engine result in less overall carbon emissions?

Oh and one other question - - - What do you think the petroleum companies think about the prospect of tens of millions of electric cars humming around?

Did I hear $1.50/gallon for diesel?

The charge for a Tesla isn't as much as people think, its roughly 5 dollars per charge which gets you 200 miles, but considering when gas was 80+ per tank, plus Tesla did a good job over the past 2 years installing there supercharging stations. A lot of these stations are located in shopping centers or malls, you could be gone for 40 minutes with 5-10 miles left of charge and come back with a fully charged car. There's one literally 5 minute drive from my house, the the stations are free to use.

Which prob explains with better fuel efficient cars, along with electric cars that were seeing much cheaper gas prices. Just this week I saw 93 oct for under 3 dollars in DC area which is amazing for this area. Maybe I by the time I get back from my vacation it will only be 40-50 dollars to fill up my AMG lol

The roll races in this video show the two cars going at it. To me it doesn't look like a nearly 300 hp advantage. I would have thought it would have been a slaying.
