stock air box vs fabbed up cold air kit
so I had this made last year never did a thing with it its pretty ****ty but wanted to try it here is what I found. I never see usefull data so here is some. runs in m mode 3rd gear pulle starting around 2800rpm
stock act 59f-108f-49 deg rise cold air kit. 55f-104f= 49 deg rise in temp.
stock air box boost. 3300rpm 11.1lbs 4500rpm 12psi 5700rpm 11.7lbs 6200rpms 11.7 pounds.
cold air kit. 3300rpm 9.5psi 4800rpm12.3psi 5700rpm 12psi 6200rpm 11.3psi. so my findings is it does flow more for a hack kit and crummy filters. it lose boost on the bottom prob due to rush of air or small filters and stock throttle body. but it did pick boost up in the mid range. part throttle you can feel the difference. im leaving stock box on for now. just some info for you kids.

Interesting...thanks!
I always dream of a ram air intake, with nasa ducts cut into the hood directly feeding a Renntech air box Lots of issues to work out with that, but I think it would be bad azz.

I made my own intake, too. I wish I would have datalogged a before and after run. In addition to the filters and pipes, I made this huge Y-pipe and modified and bored the inlet to work with the 90mm throttle body. It confirmed my feeling that the Y-pipe and inlet is definitely a choke point with the bigger TB. The butt dyno tells me it picked up a lot of power. As a bonus, the supercharger is much more audible now. Pics of the setup and a vid of the sound:

I don't think the stock air box is great, Its probably perfectly matched for the throttle body, so adding a bigger cold air kit yea I did pick up boost but if the throttle body can not take it in you wont gain much.

This. With a stock 74mm TB the stock box works fine. Just insulate it from heat as much as possible and keep the filters clean. Once you step up to larger TBs it's worth looking at other intakes. I do think it would help to wrap your CAI and throw some better filters on and see what the result is.
I did love the whine of mine when I had the CAI intake on it. My wife told me it sounded like a jet was coming.

I think with stock boost the stock tb and plenum is a restriction. since im 2lbs less of boost on dyno vs street. I mean a cts-v even has a 87mm tb from factory. Every supercharged car I touched picked up hp from a tb. My 390hp saleen ran a 75mm tb which picked up 15hp going from a 65mm. Since I seen a boost increase with the fabbed up cold air kit pretty sure it can not see its full potential due to the bottle neck of tb and plenum. air charge temps were the same with both.

Good info, thanks! Here in the burbs of Buffalo there is not much traffic and the air is cold.

Yeah, true. The dyno deep in my B-hole tells me it worked. I had a tiny spot like right after a shift where it felt like it wasn't in the beefy part of the power band. After this work, it's no longer there.
