Car now 5 months old, and I just realized...

...how much I love driving it every day. Smoothly adding throttle after a stop light I hear (aside from a mildly annoying chirp) the delightful sound emanating from the engine bay and the exhaust. I still get that warm and fuzzy feeling deep inside every time behind the wheel telling me it was worth the almost two year wait from reading about the new supercharged V8 until being handed the keys.

To all those about to receive their car, waiting for their build date, or just contemplating ordering one: You will not be disappointed knowing that there probably has never been a better all around car that is more comfortable to drive or more fun to drive in all situations. True, it's not the best handler, the most fun performer due to the lack of a manual tranny, or the fastest (although very close to being though). What it is is the best all around performance luxury package ever offered as well as being one of the greatest values in performance vehicles (second only to the Z06).

But then again, I'm a little biased.

That being said, I suspect that in the fall of 2005 I will be turning the reigns of the beast over to my wife as I have fallen in love again. The 2006 Z06 Vette with 500+ hp weighing 3200 lbs will be breathtaking.

Yes, I must agree. The W211 E55 is a wonderful car even though I don`t have one. I love that engine and exhaust!
Ummmmm, where is this chirp coming from? The supercharger?

Great article on comparing the old C5 to the new C6. They did say the next Z06 will be worth the wait. They say quote " It's a greater separation in performance and distinctive appearance from today's car"

I believe the photo you attached is the regular C6. It will be a very fun car.

...........I just read an article about the new C6 Corvette. The car will do 0-60 in 4.1 secs and quatermile in 12.5 secs and comes in both manual and automatic transmission with a base price of $47K. This before lingenfelter gets a hold of the car. Incredible performance regardless of price. But at $47K, there might be nothing the world like it. This is what the Lingenfelter folks did to the C5 Z06:

0-60 MPH 3.2 seconds with street tires
1/4 mile 9.50 @ 145 MPH with street tires
Estimated top speed 230+

Imagine what can be done to the C6. I may have just talked myself into another car.

Totally agree, Dr. Chill. Other than my Porsche, which wasn't a daily driver, this is the first car I've had where the joy is always there each time I head down the road. Of course, it's only been a month but I can never picture the car being ho hum from familiarity. And I haven't even hit summer yet. That Corvette looks like it will be one sweet ride. If it's true that the one who dies with the most toys wins, you're near the top of the standings.

Ferarri imitation? I'm not a Corvette expert in any way, but this is a car whose lineage goes back to the early 50's. In its variations it has offered styling, power and handling at a price that represents about as much bang for the buck as anything out there. It may be imitating, but I just see it as a styling progression. And good for Chevy. They always keep it coming for the Corvette buffs.

i had mildly tuned C5 vette and i loved that car, then i traded it and C32 to E55. I wont regret at any day (still my e55 is a lemon) but that C6 is like a Viper with modena tail. YUCK!

..........I hope you are just being inflamatory to elicit a reaction. From my point of view, I am unable to understand how someone can call himself/herself an automobile enthusiast and at same time fail to appreciate automotive axcellemnce across the spectrum of different manufactures. The W211 is an amazing car. So is the Z06. If you genuinely do not appreciate this, it will make one wonder if you are really an automobile enthusiast or an AMG enthusiast only. Infact many purist will argue that sine the W211 E55's performance is derived from a supercharger, that NA cars such as the Corvette are superior. I don't hold this view but I understand it. I absolutely like the W211 E55........but I also like the Z06, the NZX, the ferarri even the Subaru wrx. I Like the twin turbo s600. I like the new Lotus Elise. It has 190HP toyota engine but it is amazing how they were able to shed so much weight to achieve the excellent performance in that car. These are all different cars that are a cut above the rest. By being totally blind to everything else going on in the automotive world, it makes us look like uninformed snobs........which I do not think we are.

The C6 interior will be much better than the C5 but still pales in comparison to comparable European vehicles. Where it excels is performance and ease/availability of modification with strong emphasis on bang for the buck.

The current Z06 is quite a car;the C6 Z06 will be a monster and will kill almost anything on the track (where I plan to spend quite a bit of time).

Regarding the styling, it's drop dead gorgeous. I suspect the appearance mods to the Z06 version will make it even more aggressive.

Lingenfelter is gone but not forgotten.

Hey Blocktrader, gonna flip your vette for the next Z06? If you SC the new one like you have the old one, you'll probably push 700+ hp. GM is already talking of a Corvette supercar with >700 hp to compete with the Ford GT. Regardless, the hp wars between MB and BMW have continued across the Atlantic and boy, is it sweet!

Please detail the lemon comment and do they have lemon laws in Finland like they do here in the states?

Car looks pretty much like the new 612 Ferrari to me. Even though I'm sure the car has a great engine, I've never been a fan of the vette's plastic interieur..

I agree with Chill. I can't put this car away. As a daily driver it has it all, world class performance with the best interior in its class. A combo that can't be beat. I can bring the whole family to enjoy it.

I just passed on a GT3 slot because, really why bother.

I sure am. Don't know about S/C though. If I did it all over I would likely go Twin Turbo. I understand the new car will come in well under 3000 lbs and be 4 inches wider than the current car. Can't wait to get it on the track.
