I can't believe I'm about to say this, but my wagon is fast enough. I've seen enough of these threads to stay the hell away from a pulley. Not to throw salt on a wound, but you've no one to blame but yourself, really.

For starters, the cracked supercharger housing. You can see in the pic I'm holding the nipple that was snapped off. You can't see in the pic but the medal hose right below was also sliced, which that runs under the supercharger. Then the hose on the other side was sliced as well, then the coolant housing on the bottom was also damaged, plus the power steering pump was also damaged. The piece sticking out of the pulley was about triple that side, I had to break it off so I could start the car to get it on the tow truck otherwise more shredding would've continued to happen. Thats the thousands of dollars I'm talking about. I used to rebuild rotary engines and have been working and racing cars for over 10 years. I don't have time to work on my cars like I used to growing up therefore it costs money for labor and parts not cheap.

lol how am I to blame myself? Because an aftermarket part was sufficiently built that's my fault? I just got this car beginning of this year and learning about superchargers. I've been working on turbocharged vehicles, rotary engines and drift cars all my life so all this is just coming to light for me. For example I could change the internals on a journal bearing turbo to ball bearing and run it for years no problem, in which those parts are not made by the OEM manufacture. How is that any different?

Sorry, I wasn't referencing you personally, but anyone with an aftermarket pulley on their car. I understand yours was on there when you bought it, so I understand the frustration.

Yeah its just an unfortunate situation. I can't believe its allowed such poor quality. I'm hoping the replacement has been beefed up and this issue has been fixed!

Anyone have experience with running fixed pulleys? Is that a no no?

All these stories remind me why my car will stay stock. It's plenty fast for me as it is. Definitely fast enough to get me arrested.

Really sorry to see this happen to your beautiful car.

here is some info on the scattershield. Worth pointing out to those who think the factory pulley is immune to this sort of failure ... the OEM supercharger pulley/clutch on my SL55 came apart similarly (I caught it before it got catastrophic).... motivating me to create a shield for the AMG55 application.
https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...er-pulley.html
post 54 shows pictures of the original production version.
post 134 shows how to check if your car has a long post or short post
post 136 shows the difference between the 2 versions of the shield.

both versions are available, the long post version is available at a discount until they are gone and the short post version is universal (working on both long and short post cars).

hope that helps.
Chris

But I'm still left with thousands in damages which makes me scared to even put this pulley back in the car?!
Did you buy Vahza's car? Looks awfully familiar lol

Threads like this remind me why I will stay with stock pullies. Throttle body, cooling and long tube headers make enough power for me.

+1 same here... I only have tune and Kleemann header with IC30 pump. The rest are cosmetic 63 bumper with rear diffuser and spoiler. I think my car is fast enough to take more risk. Plus, I rather save my money when other things go wrong.

The upper pulley is simply not worth the 9hp and 20ft lbs or torque that it adds. Stick with a good ECU tune and headers. You'll be around 480whp with no worries about pulley failures.

lol that is completely incorrect. An intake gives about 10-15hp or so, saying a pulley only gives 9hp??? That's just I swear people need to do their research and be able to back it up before putting numbers out there. No wonder it becomes difficult to find any accurate info on the internet nowadays.

It's times like this where I wish this forum used a reputation system. Goes a long way toward weeding out the BS.

I guess maybe if you're heatsoaked beyond all return, those numbers are probably accurate.

An intake gives 10-15? Which one? The needswings intake was tested on dyno, before and after, barely 5 hp, do a search someone posted it here, certainly to enough to warrant the 800$+ price tag

Yeah, but you're not accounting for the ear and butt dyno. That whine has to be worth at least 50hp!
