Hi Russ,
the post does seem shorter than others I've seen. Please give me a call and we will get this right.

thanks,
Chris

Just to update the thread, Chris came up with the perfect solution, and is sending me a modified version to fit this car.
Can't beat that kind of service!
Thanks Chris

Apparently, some of the AMG55s (later ones, presumably) came with short "posts" (as seen in Starving Artist's reply to the thread a couple of days ago). This comes as a complete surprise to me (an embarrassing surprise). But, I have already begun contacting all purchasers (beginning with 2006 owners today) and I plan on identifying those who have a short post and then providing a replacement that is best suited for their application. Being as this has just come up in the last day or so AND that I don't know yet how many shields for short posts may be required to replace units that have been shipped, I have not decided if I will rework some or make a new batch.

TO BE CLEAR, the original (current) version of the shield mounted on a car with a short post presents NO risk. It is just that with the short post, it is just not the fit that I had intended for this part (and I would rather lose money on this so I can make it perfect for those who bought one).

My plan (for those affected) is to provide a replacement and then have the original returned to me (in that order).

If you have received your scattershield and have not installed it yet, it is simple enough to measure to see if you have a short or long post ... measuring from the very tip of the "post" to the casting it is pressed into (see "B" in picture below), short posts are approx 0.925" (approx 15/16") ... and long posts are approx 1.080" (approx 1 1/16") .

I will be sending an email to everyone who has purchased asking them to measure their "post" (or send me a pic of their shield and post if they have already installed it).

I am embarrassed that I was unaware that this "post" is shorter on some AMG55 cars , I am sorry for any bother this might cause ... and I am grateful in advance for everyone's help in getting this sorted out.

Thanks for the lift and the info Draggbody!

if think about it send me a note with your build date and/or last 6 digits of your VIN

I'm right there with you on the 9/64" vs metric. The deal was I needed a SS collar with a 13mm hole. The only 13mm Shaft collars I found were more than twice the price and had an OD that required machining (to clear the magnet/pulley) ... so a 1/2" collar bored to 13mm was the right part for the job.

Cheers,
Chris

UPDATE ON ALLEN WRENCHES : ) .... I just made a bulk purchase of 9/64" Allen Wrenches, SO (once they come in)... any Future shipments will include a 9/64" allen wrench (feel free to thank Draggbody for bringing it up).

Ha ha, yeah in USA 9/64is a reasonably common key, Down under it is near impossible, if it was say M4 x 0.7 or M5 x 0.8 there would have been many metric keys around.
Out of all my sets I only had 2 9/64 keys, plenty of 1/8 keys and plenty of 5/32 keys !!

It would seem that some cars have this short post ...

.. the good news for everyone who has a short post is that I designed a new version of the the scattershield this week (with the shorter post in mind) and I expect to have them ready to ship in about 3 or 4 weeks to exchange with customers that have the short post (EVEN those who have installed theirs already). It would be very helpful to get a count of how many customers have short posts (so that I make enough ...) .

To be clear, there is no risk associated with running the current shield on a "short-post" car (so don't worry about leaving it in place until I send you the "short-post version" as it IS currently providing the protection that it was designed to provide). BUT, in any case, whether you have installed it already or not, I want to provide a a shield that is designed specifically for your post length.

I have sent an email to all who have purchased a scattershield so I can identify which customers need the short-post shield.

I appreciate everyone's help in getting this sorted out and apologize for any inconvenience.

Cheers,
Chris

I've added some pictures that make it easy to see if you have the long or short post (last 2 pics are the short post)

UPDATE
The "Short Post" version of scattershield has now shipped to customers who identified that they needed the updated version.

Background:
Having found that there were some AMG55 cars that were built with a "short post" (see my previous reply to thread directly above), 5 weeks ago I sent an email to EVERY purchaser of the Scattershield asking if they could verify which post they had (so that I could make a sufficient number of updated shields designed to accommodate the "short post" and provide replacements at no charge). Much to my surprise (dismay), of the 60 emails I sent asking for help in identifying the extent of the issue, I only got 14 replies. Since then, I have finished the updated version AND have shipped a replacement (at no charge) to those who identified that they have the short post.

If there are other purchasers who have yet to reply AND have the short post, please reply to my email and I will replace your scattershield (still at no charge).

Shields are NOW available for ALL AMG55 cars

For those interested in getting a Scattershiled, I have both the original shield (for the "long post" cars) which will be available until they run out for $95 plus $6 shipping. AND, I have the updated version that is otherwise identical (but now also accommodates the "short post" ). The updated version is available for $105 plus $6 shipping. (see above post, # 134, for how to determine whether your car is a long or short post car).

Thanks for everyone's participation, patience and cooperation

Cheers,
Chris

I got my revised shield the other day and finally fitted it.
It fits, just so well !
The fit, the finish, the instructions are fantastic.
The say it comes with a weird size screw, doesn't matter it even comes with the right size tool so you can fit it.
Wished other people worked as well as you.
Thanks.

Couple pics.

AMG55 Scattershield for Supercharger pulley-e55old-20cage_zpsnyiiwcxm.jpg

Standard version as supplied to people with "longer shafts "

AMG55 Scattershield for Supercharger pulley-e55-20new-20cage_zpsxczkm1ee.jpg

Turns out I have a short shaft ( been told that many times !! )
So they make this version, I like it because it locates even better and the shield can not move up or down.

Thanks for a great product and great service.

Oh if anyone in Australia wants one, I can send it to you, save US postage. ( After you pay the supplier of course !! )

Hi Paul,
thanks for posting the pic of your new shield and the kind words.

It's a nice idea to help someone down under (and me) save some shipping charges, but it would be simplest if you just send me the (long-post) shield back (if the return shipping is more than I sent you to cover it, I will send you the difference).

thanks for your thoughtful and helpful input
Cheers,
Chris

Rahn, I am terribly sorry. I just now looked through the 60 email I sent out on april 13 and 14 explaining both how to tell the long post from the short post and that I would pay for shipping (both ways) for anyone who needed (needs) the shield designed for the short post .... and I DID NOT find one that I sent you (there was however 2 emails sent to the person on the list before you .... curse my mediocre cut and paste skills )

I just resent you the email. So at your convenience, let me know if you need the short-post shield and I can have it to you in 2 days.

If you need further clarification or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to call me on my cell (which you will find in any email I've sent you).

Cheers,
Chris

Just wanted to reinforce how great Chris (Latemodel21) is to work with. From the quality of the product, to his communication, to the individually vac packed components...A+ all the way. You will *not* be disappointed.

Fitment was perfect.

See posts 134 and 135 for information on determining if you have a "long-post" or "short-post" and pricing. Then send me a Pm (add your email address to the PM if you want to expedite the process).

pictures of the shields (long and short post versions) can be found in posts 54 and 137.

I'd like to get one myself. Maybe 2. What needs to be done to get on the list? What do I need to do about short-, long post question?

Thank you.

Hi Mackhack,
The Scattershields are in stock at the moment and available to ship (there is no need for a list right now).

you can look at postings 134 and 135 for information on determining if you have a "long-post" or "short-post" and pricing. Then send me a Pm (add your email address to the PM if you want to expedite the process).

if you are in doubt as to which version you need, you can order the short-post version which is universal (to both post lengths). The only advantage to getting the long post version ( long post only, NOT universal) is that I am offering them at a discount until they are gone)

2-day shipping to US addresses is $6 (or free when you buy 2 or more units)

Cheers,
Chris

Because .... the long post version ONLY works on the long post cars .... and ... I am getting tired of explaining to folks how to distinguish between the long and short post. So by discounting them .... I will only have the universal model (and no application explanation will be required)

Cheers,
Chris

I expect with the escalating rate of pulley failures that the "test" will happen sooner than anyone would want. Being that the shield comes with a money-back performance guarantee (that has yet to exercised), I can say with confidence that none, so far, has failed to perform as intended.

Chris
