HID bulb replacement - No ballasts?

Hey guys, I want to install 6000k bulbs in my car, it comes stock with the self-leveling bi-xenons. I'm guessing I will not need to buy ballasts? Just bulbs? If I buy a brand such as Morimoto bulbs or Philips Ultinon bulbs, will it give off a code or anything?

Anyone have any experience on this?

Thanks!

Thanks, I'll probably go with 6000k Philips Ultinons, so expensive, but I heard they're worth it. Then I'll get a Morimoto 6000k kit for the fogs. Doesn't really make sense to put an expensive HID kit (like ultinon) in fogs...

I have 4300k bulbs which offers the the highest lumens and for fogs I have 3000k h7 bulbs. You can not use d2s bulbs on fogs.

Another mod that you could also do to your headlight if you are brave enough is to replace the Fresnel lens with zkwr clear lens.

I like the brightness of the 4300k's that I have right now, they're the factory bulbs. But it has halogen hints to it. I like mine crystal with with a little blue. (5000k would be perfect but they dont have 5000k philips)

And I'm not into the yellow fogs lol, used to have them on previous cars. I want the clean look now. All the same color

Osram 66240CBI's are my choice. I run them in mine. Let me know if you want to get a pair with a little discount.

Will do. I don't know if you would know, but Morimoto HID's have an option of a Anti flicker capacitor link, and 2 different types of harnesses. Do I need the capacitor link, and which harness do I need (HD Relay or Canbus)?

Thanks!

If you have factory HID's then you only need the D2S Bulbs. They are a direct swap. If you want even better output then swap out the crappy OEM projectors for a set of Evo-XR Projectors. I run those in mine. I love them.

If you go LED or HID in the fog lights than you will need a CAN-Bus. Fog lights are 9006.

I was thinking about doing the evoxr but was my happy with the cutoff edge distortion. I might consider it since I want more light.

The stock Hella E55's have a pretty crummy cutoff. If you color mod the Evo XR you can have a 2-3" blue line at the cutoff at 25'. I have mine setup that way and it looks killer. The color flicker is even better.

I have no idea what that all means, but could you maybe show some pictures?

Hella E55 is the HID projector in your E55 headlight. It's a 45* cutoff or the European headlight code (ECE, E-Code)
Picture of stock cutoff/projector.

Here is the EVO XR Direct replacement. It's a clear lens projector that is a replica of the stock projector, however the beam pattern, high beam, width and distance has been improved. (note this is one projector)

Fog lights are 9006? I heard H11s work in them...

Yeah I'm talking about the fog lights, So I will need Canbus, not the HD relay? No capacitor necessary?

Thanks guys. Not really knowledgeable on this matter

Also, is 35W HID's fine for the fogs? Or do I need 55w...

35W only on the stock fog light wiring/housing. 55W will product too much heat.

I'm not sure what the CL uses for projectors. If you can pop the cover off the back of the headlight and take a picture of the projector I can tell you. I am probably safe to assume a Hella E55 since MB loves that projector. I just want to make sure.

I used Osram 66240 "CBI"'s this time ... but they not that blue.. I would recommend Philips 85122 WX Ultinon for blue look. I had the Philips on my c63 before and they are pretty.
