Tire sizing upsize information for the W211

We have had a ton of threads lately about tire sizes and recommendations, so instead of getting a bunch of opinions, I thought I would provide some facts so we can eliminate some of the confusion around here and users can make their own decisions... (mods maybe think about making this a sticky?)

Stock Sizes for the E55
F 245/40_18|R 265/35_18
Diameter: F 25.7" | R 25.3"

Closest sizes for a +1 Upsize to 19" wheels
F 245/35_19|R 265/30_19
Diameter: F 25.8" | R 25.3"
Using this size, your speedometer and odometer will be affected by 0.2%, or you will actually be travelling 59.9mph when your speedo says 60mph. Over 1000 miles, your odometer will read that you traveled 1001.7 miles.

On a side note, the popular size for a +1 upsize/19" rear tire has been...
R 275/30_19
Diameter: 25.5"
Using this size, your speedometer and odometer will be affected by 0.8%, or you will actually be travelling 60.5mph when your speedo says 60mph. Over 1000 miles, your odometer will read that you traveled 991.7 miles.

Closest sizes for a +2 Upsize to 20" wheels
F 245/30_20|R 285/25_20 (Both 265/25 & 275/25 are not valid tire sizes, which would be closer in diameter)
Diameter: F 25.8" | R 25.6"
Using this size, your speedometer and odometer will be affected by 1.2%, or you will actually be travelling 60.7mph when your speedo says 60mph. Over 1000 miles, your odometer will read that you traveled 988.5 miles.

On a side note, another popular size setup for a +2 upsize to 20" has been...
F 255/30_20 | R 295/25_20
Diameter: F 26.0" | R 25.8"
Using this size, your speedometer and odometer will be affected by 2.0%, or you will actually be travelling 61.2mph when your speedo says 60mph. Over 1000 miles, your odometer will read that you traveled 980.4 miles.

Taller size that some users run for +2 Upsize to 20" wheels
F 245/35_20|R 275/30_20
Diameter: F 26.8" | R 26.5"
Using this size, your speedometer and odometer will be affected by 4.7%, or you will actually be travelling 62.8mph when your speedo says 60mph. Over 1000 miles, your odometer will read that you traveled 955.4 miles.

Obviously other widths will fit, depending on your wheels, lowering, fender rolls etc, but this information should get you started.

It depends on the tire, as they vary slightly between manufacturers. Each tire should have a recommended wheel width range.

I think you have your numbers reversed for odometer reading after 1000 miles.

For example, when running 275/30-19, when your odometer reads 1000 miles, you will have actually travelled 1008.3.

Has anyone ever tried to run 255/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear?

If I had a 20x10 would I still want a 285/25 or a 275/30?

You are correct. I will update the post. I had the actual vs implied backwards.

When the car thinks I am traveling 60 miles per hour, I am actually traversing 60.5 miles per hour. Therefore, when I have actually traversed 1000 miles, the computer will think that I only went 991.7 miles

Well this thread failed to generate much discussion... And on that note, has anyone ever run 255/35-19 front and 285/30-19 rear? I keep going back and forth on whether I want lightweight 18s or 19s, but if I go 19s I want a bit more tire.

I have this exact tire combination on SL65 wheels on my E55 with no lowering mods.

Depending on your exact tires, wheel offset and fender mods, 285 will rub on the rear outer part of the fender. In my case, on the SL65 rears I will move down to 275/30-19.

Good to see some definite answers, I just bought wheels and the info while I was looking was all over the place ended up using a 20x8.5 +34 with 255-30-20 front and 20x10 +40 with a 275-30-20 rear I used the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo2 tire. Rides great with no rubbing on sport2

Lol did a lot of calculating there Sorry yes the numbers are of..

waste of time easiest to do is correct the speedo by entering the tire size into the Comand system very simple.
else plug your Mercedes Star in you can calibrate for different tyre sizes in Mercedes Star..

PS
Of course we own Mercedes Star driving MB so many years is a must have together with WIS/ASRA/EPC right?
Is really easy to buy these days, easy to get your hands on... first of all tjek your Comand System..
